I know two people who have taken delivery of their Model Ys in the past week. Both owners were well aware of the quality control problems and went over their vehicles very thoroughly and without pressure from the delivery staff before accepting the cars. Aside from some small misalignments in panels and trim, the vehicles didn't have anything majorly wrong with them.

As one of the new owners told me, "If you want a car with perfect fit & finish, go buy an Audi or BMW. But for a car with amazing battery drivetrain technology and charging infrastructure, you gotta go with Tesla."

Best of all, you have 7 days for a full refund. I'm sure folks will say it's a hassle, and it probably is, but it is a huge benefit. Wish all car companies would allow 7 day return if not satisfied.

If you buy a Tesla, I really feel bad for you. Everyone I know personally (3 folks) that has bought one ends up regretting it some point in the ownership experience. I dumped mine a year and a half in and I couldn't be happier.

Tesla quality is terrible and their image is tarnished with current owners who have experienced the full circle ownership.

Their cars look great on paper, but owning one is a nightmare. I don't miss anything about my model 3.

What people don't realize is at the core of the problem Tesla is not adopting a 3rd party dealership method. This key mistake will always lead to lackluster after sales support, sales support, and service.

I know a lot of people will give tesla a pass for the tech, but the reason some manufactures pay close attention to the fit and finish is because they know full well what people can see impacts what they feel about what they can't see. In reality it has no real impact at all but if someone can't align a door correctly then people will start wondering what are the chances they have assembled an engine or gearbox correctly etc .

Ford are not immune to poor panel fit, just go look at the multiple complaints about the mustang coupe :(, when the perceived cost is cheap people are more forgiving, but with a BEV they are not really cheap and this is a problem tesla needs to address, if people want to call it luxury it needs to be built to a consistent level far beyond what tesla currently do.

This goes for Ford also with the mach-e, they can not revert to type and start sticking in nasty cheap plastics in the interior which they have a notorious habit of doing as the bean counters try and save a few pennies in different world markets but not in others, when you start charging $50k+ there is a minimum standard you need to meet.

Tech only goes so far it works fine with early adopters and those that want to be on the bleeding edge but there comes a point where everyone else has caught up to a similar level and if you still can't align a door or make a premium interior to match the purchase price people will go elsewhere..

Tesla needs to get more factories online building vehicles and spread the load as what comes out of fremont is very hit and miss and takes a long time to reach a consistent level of build quality with each new model.

Yeah, I took a big X to the Y after reading this (same issue with the 3), and I don't mean the Tesla x.

Tesla is a polarizing company. Their quality issues are a little overblown compared to other manufacturers. Acting like going to a legacy manufacturer means you will have perfect fit and finish is a bit naive.

With the way Tesla stock moves ... keep in mind that a LOT of people have a vested interest in making them appear either really good or really bad. There are definitely stories that are written with the hope of being able to short their stock.

Exactly. For the heck of it, I checked out the Model Y FB page. This is one of the largest threads there: "Are you happy after owning for a month?" How dare reality not fit this fan site haha. Are there issue, of course. Is it 100% of the 1 million Telsas on the road, no. Fear mongering shows how naive some are. Actually, per the Ryan Shaw(?) youtube followup there is already a running change for some of the most common issues (heat pump noise, rear seat alignment, and a few others I can not remember).

Relax and just enjoy the EV of your choosing...pretty simple. Each fan site will not change the perception of the other....just be happy we are all excited for EV's.

Not bolting the seats in? That is a huge safety issue and is totally unacceptable. That's my complaint. That is more than just "perfect fit and finish".

Yes there are haters and unabashed supporters. In my experience, the unabashed supporters outnumber. Elon's goal with Tesla was to get the world on Electric Cars by bringing serious competition and showing an electric car can work. Without Tesla I doubt the Mach-E would exist. But, Tesla can't be the only electric car company in the world, so the fanboys that downplay any other car that is not a Tesla, or blindly looks past the multitude of issues Tesla has, doesn't make any sense to me. It's "anti" the goal.

I mentioned earlier where I live in NorCal, Tesla's are as common as Honda. The whole reason I even got involved in wanting a Tesla was due to talking to owner's at the local Starbucks, or people at work that owned one (or two). They all, unequivocally love their cars. Most have had little to no issues, and those that did had their issues resolved. There is a reason that Tesla has the highest (or one of the highest) ratings for customer satisfaction in Consumer Reports. Overall, their owners love their cars.

That said, Tesla deserves the criticism for the issues with fit and finish. When your spending $40-$130k on a car, there should not be the problems we're seeing on the Y (or any of their vehicles). I suspect that Tesla will address the issues. They have the best tech, now they just need to have average fit and finish and they will be solid.

We need competition in the EV industry. It benefits us all.

Sure SoCal & NorCal are tesla hot spots, but I can imagine a lot of the sales had more to do with being able to use them in the carpool lane. I see this tesla tech and is years ahead brought up all the time, and apart from the supercharger network there is noting that they have that anybody else can't do. I applaud the dedication to pushing the electric vehicle mainstream and ditching the outdated dealer model, but everything else is not beyond the realms of existing manufactures and tier 1 suppliers

Every brand has its fans but in my experience tesla have some of the worst, I gave up looking at numerous supposed ev forums after a while as it was a constant stream of 'its not a tesla' on any article related to another competing ev. The outcry to the taycan being faster was the worst, subsequently followed by the abysmal attempt around the nurburgring where every tesla fan instantly became an expert thinking you could just roll up and and be fastest lol.. I think chris harris summed up tesla best, impressive but made for people that have no interest in cars.

The one thing I like about the various fords I have owned is that when the bean counters stop getting in the way of the engineering they can make a car that is fun to drive, that however doesn't mean I am not going to call them up where the cheapen out and that is typically the interior quality, especially on USA spec models, it is the one reservation I have with the mach-e as the price point crosses over into premium territory

While I can't make a final judgement call from pre-production images, there are things missing from the mach-e interior that really shouldn't be for the price point, but once the vehicles are out in the wild and reviewed as it is a ford you know pretty much that any forum will be awash with gripes, where as with any tesla the gripes will quickly be drowned out by a sea of fans seeming willing to be beta testers and readily put up with poor workmanship because it is a tesla, and while that mentality prevails fixing the build quality issues will continue at a snails pace.

Having some competition will change that. I have been very active on Tesla forums for years. Every hobby has it's die hards that refuse to accept any criticism of their favorites. But I have noticed a change in that mentality on Tesla forums and Reddit groups. There are a lot more threads of issues and way less detractors trying to squash the discussion of issues with the product. I have a feeling the most recent issues and published articles are going to have an effect on sales Tesla has not experienced before.

I'm here on this forum because I put in for a Ford, with a Model Y (still on order) due to the issues that have come to light. The Y rollout seems to be worse than the 3, and that should not have happened.

With all the quality issues Tesla has its a wonder their still selling them. If Ford or any other manufacture turned out cars like these they would be crucified and loose sales. I hope Ford understands that the Mach E has to be extremely close to perfect.
