Would a case like this fall under insurance or cause a diminished value?

How did that happen, did they accidentally lower/drop something onto the vehicle?

WOW! That really sucks man, I'm so sorry to see that. I would definitely look into diminished value claims. That repair will go on the car's record and could potentially hurt your value. You might be able to not only get them to fix it, but get a bit of compensation out of it

I've seen this happen (without a glass roof) on new cars being delivered at the dealership. The cars arrive on the 2-level trucks where some vehicles are transported over the top of others. The cars usually end up on the bottom, while larger vehicles are on top. When the truck driver tries to lower the top level enough to unload a vehicle from up there (without emptying the bottom level first), sometimes they aren't watching or noticing how much the top level comes down and the car on the bottom gets its roof crushed..

I am so sorry to see this happened. I know stuff happens, but that would upset me. I stress leaving my car at the top of the Walmart parking lot, afraid of a ding.

That will be a comprehensive claim only if claimed on the Owners insurance as a glass claim. That will not show on any Carfax or Autocheck. The only way that will show is on the repair invoice from the ford dealer and maybe as a repair on either reporting agency if the dealer reports it. I would say it will be no different than a windshield replacement and there would be no diminished value to the car. At the end of the day, It's just a sheet of glass. I understand its the roof, but it's glass, like the windshield or back glass. It's interesting to consider though....If it was a metal roof, it would be a potential.

That kind of damage to a metal roof would likely total the car.

In the case of the brand new vehicles with metal roofs that I mentioned seeing it happen to in my prior comment, the dealer in question had a body shop repair them inexpensively enough that I don't believe it was ever disclosed to the purchaser. In the state in which it happened, they were only legally required to disclose prior damage if it exceeded a certain amount. I wouldn't like it if that were my car, but it happens far more often than you think.

Sorry to hear about the damage. That is my only fear seeing that I have same roof. Glad it is cover and hope they fix it sooner than later.
