Instead of listing what are most annoying things about Mach-e, I would like to hear comments about what are the most annoying things about charging in places other than your home?

We all know that the Ford Blue Oval Network exists in name only at this point in time; and the only available dcFast chargers are by Electrify America's ubiquitous green neon lit chargers. I have twice traversed the I-95 corridor from FL to NJ, sidetrips to PA, and then to Dover DE.

During my road trips I have patronized EA's at: the Avenues at Mall JAX/Port St Lucie/Florida City/Boyton Beach in FL, Brunswick/Pooler in GA, Walterboro/Florence in SC, Smithfield in NC, Richmond in VA; Woodbridge/Columibia in MD; Newcastle in DE; New Brunswick/Lawrenceville/Clifton/Fairfield in NJ and E Stroudsburg/Plymouth Mtg in PA.

So my most annoying things are: (1) No window cleaning squeegees, do I miss them at gas pumps! ...specially driving long distances in summer; (2) Lack of overhead canopies, have you tried to charge in the middle of a squall? ... which was everyday promptly at 5:00PM in Miami area this past week! At one particular location there was ankle deep puddle and I was truly afraid of been electrocuted ... luckily I had a leather working glove in the car; and (3) Inability of Ford's Plug & Charge feature (ISO protocol 15118) to integrate and recognize individual EA or any membership accounts.

... and if you happen to charge after 10:00PM at non 24 hrs Walmarts you can't pee either.

Simple, put the following items in your Frunk:
  • Paper towels
  • Windex
  • a collapsable unbrella or parasol
Then you have your window cleaning, and an "overhead canopy".

At least that solves 2 of the 3 issues.

Also note that "Ford's network" includes more than EA chargers--its just that EA chargers are the only ones that do P&C (although I thought there was another system that also does it...search the forums here).

Ok here would be a cool feature plugshare could add: Add a filter for P&C locations (just submitted feedback to plugshare suggesting that feature).

Most annoying thing in our experience has been the non-functional or under-performimg units.

Had no expectation of covered stalls, window cleaning supplies, or bathrooms.

Was surprised at the varying layouts, some great, some awful.

Would have liked more exactly locations of chargers, at one location a group of semis totally blocked them from view.

Very disappointed that Sync maps don't list the city of the chargers it brings up, since I then need to go into PlugShare and read reviews.

Would like to see EA add reviews and accurate status to their app.

Would like to see EA provide incentives to those that help them improve their network by providing accurate reports of units broken or malfunctioning. I provided detailed information and got a thank you, nothing more.

Would like to be able to skip a station on the mapping like I can in ABRP, set arrival SOC, and change departure SOC for more accurate planning. While I like the ability of dynamic routing, I want to avoid problematic locations and also not charge to 73% when 80% makes more sense to me.

More to come...

Interesting ... from day one I had no faith in the on board NAV system, I always use either the EA map or the PlugShare and Google maps. Whenever I use the on board NAV it always routes me to an obscure Harley Davidson charger in some dim lit closed strip mall and tells me to charge for 30%-50% ... instead of routing to a EA dcFast charger and charge to 80%. I use the on board NAC only for the segment of the trip.
There is no incentive on the part of the EA because they were created by a fund out of a settlement ordered by the court, until such time they find a partner who is willing to turn into a true made for profit enterprise ... but I think Tesla's Supercharger network will dominate the market ... I see them partnering with Wawa, Royal Farms, and also at certain eateries ... saw a bank of Superchargers at a Bubalicious BBQ in Homestead, FL.

The most annoying thing to me is the people that come up to you and say “ That ain’t NO Mustang!! “ lol
I don't mind ... I just hope I don't get "keyed" or my darling Mach-e been spat at, as shown by Tesla cam videos that people have posted!

Are many of those EA chargers you used at Walmart’s. I am planning a trip to Florida from NY when I do get the car and cheking out the best places to stop. Curious how much mileage was still in battery battery when you stopped. i have seen many stories of chargers not working and then have to go to another place.

You control how much charge is left when you stop to recharge. Most EA chargers are at Walmarts, you can install the EA app and see. Almost never are 100% of the chargers at a site inoperable.

Harley Davidson has chargers at many dealerships, most free. Slower, but a good backup plan. As you get a stop or two under your belt, you push the envelope more. We stopped at 10% at a few stops.
