Car always “jolts” when braking/stopping

Hi guys. Kind of a noob question here. Just picked up an AWD Mach e. Love it for the most part but one thing I can’t seem to really get used to is the “jolt” when braking and coming to a stop. I’ve tried all drives modes and while that changes brake sensitivity, they all still have that same jolt sensation just before you come to a complete stop. Like the equivalent if one were to slam on their brakes but going only a few mph.

Any advice here? Does this happen to be because it’s an AWD?

Do you use OPD or standard two pedal?

I heard auto stop hold might do that. Otherwise, the car is known to have very grabby brakes.

Yes, turn auto-hold off.

The regen brings you down to a slow crawl then the computer switches the braking duty to the brakes. With a little practice (I use 2 pedals too) you can minimize the abruptness of it by figuring out when the computer wants to apply the brakes and let up on the brake pedal to coast a little more...... but the computer will always have the final word - and will stop the car.

You can use the brake coach in "engage" mode to temper the use of the brake pedal. Hit 100% (a reward for a slow crawl to a stop) a few dozen times and you'll see what I mean. You can feel the transition.

Auto hold does not engage until the vehicle is fully stopped for a second or two. I doubt OP will notice any difference when coming to a stop if they turn it off.

Thanks, so auto hold needs to go off along with brake coach on. I’ll give it a go

This brings up a question I have been thinking of that may have bearing on this discussion.

For EVs with Regen breaking (and the Mach-e in particular), how do you properly seat the brake pads? It seems you don't really have enough control to go through the normal regimen.

Bedding in requires firm stops which should bypass the regen braking for the most part.

It doesn't matter, you almost never use mechanical brakes. I just need to remind myself to brake once in awhile to clean up the rust.

In my case my car will ever ever so slightly move when at a full stop. Its very very very little amount of movement, but I'm pretty sensitive to it. I also had a little stick type air freshener on my mirror and you can see it swing cause at first I thought it was just in my head.

I turned on the stop hold and it removed that slight moment.

That‘s just how the blending braking works. Keep driving until you get used to it.

You kow when the jolt is coming, ease off the brake and see if you can let rolling resistance do the rest.
