Purchased a RWD with standard battery in April and have been tracking all my expenses including energy for the first 6000 miles. The attached spreadsheet reflects these expenses using the local utility cost per KWh. Glad to report that energy is at $0.02 per mile and I am averaging a little over 4 miles per KW using unbridled and 1-pd operation. I believe most ICE vehicles will be in the $0.10+ for their fuel cost per mile. I like the savings.

In northern Virginia, my electricity is a little more expensive I think; I’m running my Premium 4x at about 2.2 cents per mile.
My Acura RDX, requiring premium gasoline, was running about 13.4 cents per mile (just for gas…not even factoring in oil changes).

I’m definitely pleased. I know it won’t be so efficient in winter, but let’s say efficiency gets cut in half —which it won’t—that’s still less than five cents per mile. Way ahead.

At SF Bay Area gasoline prices (premium fuel), I don’t even want to figure out my cost per mile on my V8s. Not that I care either. Those cars are all toys and don’t get driven much any more.

I see that your utility kwh cost is $0.095, is that after all taxes and transmissions costs are added in?
Currently my rate here in Delaware is right about $0.037 and if I take my total bill and divide by kwh used my actual rate is more like $0.13. Thats after all the transmission fees and service charges are added in.
To me this is a more accurate way to measure costs.

The utility reports my actual cost is around $0.07 with $0.025 for fees that can adjust during unusual occasions. The $0.095 is an average based on several years of observing TVA power distribution and current Tier 1 level usage.

My experience on M/KWh is that if you are cruising over 50 MPH, takes a rare day for me to get to 4.1 M/KWh. Whereas it is very easy to do sub 45 mph. Around town at sub 35 mph? Piece of cake. The only variables that tosses great ā€œmileageā€ out the window is weather.. heat, cold, headwinds. I predict my winter average will drop to 3.5 M/KWh from current 3.7 summer-early fall average.

Your definitely at an advantage in cost, wish mine was lower but I really can't complain when other states are way higher.

Great point on the cost of electricity. I pay $0.00948 per kwh in off peak. That translates to closer to $0.125 true cost.

My off-peak period is 7PM - 11AM (yes, 16 hours) Mon - Fri, and all weekends. Peak is 11AM - 7PM Mon - Fri.

I am so incredibly jealous of these utility rates.

Our utility rates are incredibly stupid in Southern California. I pay an extra $16/mo fee, to gain access to slightly lower rates for ā€œSuper Off-Peakā€.

I truly loathe SDG&E rates and can not wait until my solar gets turned up.

Overall, cost of ownership of the MME over an ICE vehicle is still lower for me. Last I saw, fossil fuel was costing somewhere around $4.50/gallon down the road for the cheap stuff.

…and to think I was bitching about my $3.35/gal for premium unleaded.

Yeah, at my advanced years most of our driving is around town where even regen helps. Have not experienced a winter yet with a BEV but I expect a 10-25% decline in efficiency would not be out of the question. I hear that preconditioning is a must in the winter no matter where you live except maybe southern California, or Florida.

I have to laugh at my desire for energy savings when we pay .0643 per KWh. My S.O. thinks I’m nuts looking to save two dimes a day in addition to the $16.00 I’m saving per day over the Flex.

I'm probably not understanding this correctly... But this $16 service fee is charge monthly, correct? So it's just $16 plus a fee based on your actual kWh usage?

My provider is Salt River Project in the Phoenix area. Regardless of which plan I choose (basic, time of use, EV TOU, etc), I pay a $20/month service fee for the single meter connection. Then they add in energy charges. And then city, county, and state taxes (i.e. sales tax).

This seems fair to me, other than the sales tax being applied to a necessary utility, but whatever.

My most recent bill for the month of September was $149.21. $11.44 of that is sales tax (8.3%), and $20 is for having electric service. The remainder, $117.77 is based on the energy used (1,232 kWh) during the 30 day period.

Are you sure you're not saving much on your EV TOU plan? Maybe the other plans also have a monthly service fee, or maybe much higher energy fees?

Well, to be honest, we have solar for the house and I use it to charge the car. The solar covers about 90% of our monthly power usage so my actual cost to charge the car is about $0.002/KWh. I used the energy data from the utility to make a comparison to normal non solar households and ICE vehicles. The big difference is when I charge...when the sun is shining during the day whereas most EV owners charge at night during off peak.

Notice when the super off peak times are. I believe that the charge is to get access to this rate, on top of the existing connection charges and fees.
