RR on the rear spring tag just indicates they are REAR springs. Both springs are the same. The front springs have a FRT on the tag. This is common for many Ford coil springs. It was the same on my Escape, Focus RS and GT500.

Makes sense. Could you imagine someone trying to put those up front? That would be a comedy reel for sure. :)

The wire size on those rear springs is quite large. Look like truck springs to me.

Greg, I agree with you on the wire size. Larger than any of my other cars I have swapped out springs on.

But I didn't order the Teddy Roosevelt Edition! ??
It’s a no cost option given to those who order a secret combination of trim line, color, options, order number, battery size, VIN, and interior color. The secret combination is variable and unique to each customer. It’s much like becoming a Jedi in the original Star Wars Galaxies MMO. Only with far more real money. In fact, the programmers in charge of this system were employed by Sony Online Entertainment and have been waiting all these years to dust of the code.

The combination unknown by anyone except the night janitorial crew at the factory. They’re sent a list daily by carrier pigeon of which cars to add the Rough Rider Springs. They install the RR springs during their “breaks.”

Unfortunately, there was a glitch in the programming and far more cars were given the RR springs than planned. It’s rumored that the interior protection package was given undue weight by the Sony algorithms. Ron Heiser, Mike Levine, and Emma Bergg have all disavowed any knowledge regarding the rough rider installation team, or the special springs.

Somewhat suspiciously, Ford has announced that the 2022 Mustang Mach-e will have an optional NBE package. This NBE package is also rumored to be the primary reason for both the delay in meaningful OTA patch notes, and for the delay in PowerUp 1.7.1. The former to sneakily prepare the Mach-e for “normal operating characteristic” removal, and the latter to actually remove the RR spring capacity from those who did not earn it.

Btw, thanks for the pics Greg.

I saw that jack and thought I need one, then read the comment about struggling to lift it. I really need a new jack that will work well for the MME, but also go low enough to work on the GT350.

It was a silent, free upgrade.

I would recommend the next size up. The one I have is only a 2 ton unit. I really should get the stronger unit.

Thanks for posting. I'm due for rotation soon too at 9K miles, was just thinking how best to lift the MME. I'm definitely buying that HF jack cross beam. It will make it much easier to work on this (or any other) car.

One question. IIRC the lug nuts torque spec on the MME is 150lbs, correct? I have the cheap HF torque wrench which maxes at 150lbs. Is it advisable to use it at its max rating, or time to invest in a better one?

Thanks! I cannot wait to see mine after a Winter of Road Salt.
You will probably want to lube the brakes on the MME after salty winter driving. The MME, if I don't drive the car after a car wash, it rusts right away and the front brakes makes a clunking noise. I'm aware of the TSB of possibly faulty brake pads from the factory, not sure if that alone will address it.

These pinch weld lifting pucks are useful. These allow me to get right where I need to be to lift the car. There is a very strong wide flat alum frame member where they want you to lift from. Some people might try placing the jack at the channel that surrounds the battery pack. That looks pretty strong too but not where the manual says to lift so try and avoid using that. These pucks keep your jack on the wide frame vs the channel frame.

Yes. 150 lbs is the spec. I tightened mine to 145 ft lbs. I think you are okay with the HF unit set to 140 or 145. When I took my wheels off, it only took about 75 ft lbs to break the lugs free. I don't know if the torque setting works the same when loosening as when tightening but they didn't really feel tight enough.

My guess is they were tightened correctly at the factory but when they get to the dealership the wheels come off so they can remove a plastic rotor shield prior to customer delivery. In my case, when they put the wheels back on they didn't torque them to spec.
