Me too exactly, GTPE, does that mean we now will receive a 2022? Thought 2022 production started Nov 29?

My production week of 11/29 is a 2021 and I saw somewhere else that someone had a production week of 12/6 and it was also a 21

If you take delivery in 22 isn’t it a 22? Seems no way to have a 11/29 production and receive in December.
As far as I know, year is when it’s made, delivered is another story. I can’t imagine I will get in 21 although it would be nice To get the tax break for this year.

My dealer told me that it is possible to do all the paperwork before arrival of the car................ there are obvious risks for this though.........

Mine dealer told me the same thing but with a 12/6 production week (2021MY) it wouldn't arrive until the 2nd half of January at best. As you say, the buyer's risks are obvious.

Frankly speaking - what is the difference what year you will report your tax credit....... If you need money then just correct your taxforms to pay less taxes every month or quarter.........

Not everyone pays taxes in the same way. Many people who are self employed, for example, can pay quarterly estimated taxes and sure they could add to it. But your quarterlies are based on previous years taxes. Therefore, if you made more this year you will owe uncle Sam come next April. So some people might want the break this year not knowing what next year will bring.

The difference could be paying 7k to the government come April vs the possibility of getting some back. There's been years when I owed 20k in April. That's not a fun thing. So if I knew that I had an upcoming bill and could purchase a car, claim some of the car as an expense and lower that amount owed via rebate, then for sure!

As for @Dave.law, I hope your prod date sticks. I had a date that got moved 2 months. Because of my date being moved, and my intent to get a car, in part, for tax purposes this year, I chose to cancel the order and found a vehicle across the country that I purchased. I wish you better luck my friend!

#1 tax credit might not be the same next year depending on what tax laws may change
#2 can’t take the credit unless you own the car. Doing the paperwork means nothing.
