First week with GTPE, it was not over-hyped

I hear everyone talk about 0-60… but in the real world, if you are doing 70 or 75 on the Interstate and need to pass someone:

In your opinion, does it have enough (pardon the pun) power to pass? Do you feel like it is easily accelerating at this point, or like it is using everything it has to give?

I have read other people's opinions, but I am curious what you think.

I've purposely been avoiding responding to any of the back and forth that's been going on here, as there are 200+ other threads with the same people making the same complaints over and over again. You're all allowed to have your own opinion, but I think expectations may be a bit overblown for what this car is supposed to be.

In my opinion, there is no problem passing at speeds up to 85mph. Can you expect to pass a Hellcat who has 2 more gears to burn through after that speed? No. As I mentioned in the original post...if you want a car to drag full time, buy a different car....if you want to go 185mph in a straight line, buy a Hellcat. If you want a car that handles like a go-kart, buy a Mini. If you want a true Ford sports car, then go buy a GT350 or 500.

For refence, I had previously owned a 2012 Charger SRT8, around 480HP, 4.6s 0-60. Did I expect the GTPE to be comparable from a raw power band standpoint? No, of course not. But the GTPE met all my expectations for the reasons I listed previously and I have no regrets.
I'd also like to know where you all drive your car at top speed on a regular basis. No way I do that around here regularly between the traffic, windy roads, potholes, and overzealous speed enforcement (and that's in a state where radar is illegal at the local level). I'd get the Charger up to 140 on a stretch of road where I knew every road defect and knew where every cop could possibly sit. After 4 or 5 times of doing that, the novelty wore off and I had paid for useless HP. Took it to the strip once, was fun that one time, but never took it back. Again, that's not why I bought the GTPE.
If anyone is on the fence over this, don't be. If you're leaning towards not getting it over the +85mph concerns, then think about how often you plan on actually doing that vs. flooring it at lower speeds. The latter is much more fun for me, as well as performance on windy mountain roads.

Picked up my Shadow Black GTPE last Monday, and can honestly say after a week I'm not disappointed about anything, and it was well worth the wait over a non-GT. I used it on my 30mile commute a few times, as well as some longer trips over the weekend.

The pros:
1. The performance in every aspect (acceleration, braking, ride, handling for a car this size, range meeting expectations)
2. Attention and positive comments in any parking lot, even though it's not Cyber Orange. My wife jokingly tells everyone who asks about it that it's $5 for each answer. Many of the most positive comments included "that looks much cooler in real-life than on TV" from pickup truck and "real" Mustang owners.
3. Quality (yeah, it's only been a week, but there aren't parts falling off or any bolts missing unlike some other EVs, no squeaks or rattles, no software issues)
4. Usefulness as an everyday car if needed, at least until the snow arrives. I have a go-anywhere Volvo for when that happens, not worth getting snow tires on the GTPE.
5. Ease & availability of charging (both at home and the number of available charging stations, even in the non-green energy Northeast)
6. Insurance wasn't nearly as painful as expected, at least in this region.
7. The sad faces on D-bags about 3.5s after they tried to race you.

Does it have quirks? Of course., the usual complaints already listed elsewhere:
1. Double pull frunk (I don't plan on opening it that much anyway and better than having it be that way than risk it popping open at 70mph)
2. PAAK has minor connection issues, but I usually always have the fob with me anyway (I don't trust my phone for anything important)

Bluecruise worked as expected (available for about 80% of my commute). I don't need, or want full self-driving. That's something that will never happen, and I buy cars to drive, not to ride. I don't envision even using the BC very often.

Also, I see the complaints about the top-speed/trap limitations. I say if you want a car to actually drag race every weekend, why would you buy an EV Crossover in the first place?

Yes on both. Dealer was surprised I received 2 keys, so I explained to him that was a change Ford made, and I believe the GTs were to always to come with 2 keys...this was their first GT. I don't see using the frunk very often, at least for my needs. More of a "hey look a cooler" statement when people ask what's under the hood. The regular trunk is much larger than I was expecting, and I did upgrade to the all-weather mats.

One thing I forgot to add is this particular dealer and salesperson was actually very knowledgeable considering they only had 3 MachE's in total come through so far (mine plus another custom order for a 1st Ed, and a premium they had ordered and sold...for almost as much as my GT). You could tell this particular salesperson spent a considerable amount of time researching outside of the Ford training since I processed my order back in June. He reached out to me several times after the actual order was placed with tracking info and a few links to articles/videos. Upon picking up the car, he walked me through setting up a bunch of stuff, even though I already knew how to do it form months of research and this forum, but I appreciated the extra steps that may not have happened elsewhere. This particular dealership has a bad reputation from multiple family and friends, as well as a car I bought from them about 20yrs ago, so I was skeptical going through them and not another dealer further away. But they won my future business back. Superfast paperwork processing (mostly State forms) and no attempt at mark-up or overselling extended coverage. They do on-site coating so I did buy that to save time from having to drop it off elsewhere. They actually coated it prior to me paying for the car, so didn't have to wait. I'll be curious to see if the service dept is up to speed, though hopefully I won't need to worry about it.

Shoopla, I appreciate you bringing us back to the real world usefulness of an SUV with the points you raised. And I wanted to re-share this link to Ford’s Winter Testing of the Mach E because it’s not just about the 0-60.



This was another factor in my decision because I need a year round, all wheel drive, daily driver SUV (Kids, Dog, NY winters) and the Mach E fits that need. I have a lot of go fast toys that unfortunately sit in my garage 7 months a year, probably 9 if I count rainy days too. But I also like my daily driver to have some get up and go as well and I am fortunate that I can buy the GTPE trim when the Select trim would more than suffice to get around town.

I would love to convert my Shelby Cobra or Mustang to all-wheel drive, but that doesn’t mean I’d drive them in winter or throw my wet muddy Shepherd in them. Wow- the thought of wet mud anywhere near one of my toys just made me shudder!

I’d also throw in that for safety reasons, people really shouldn’t be trying to pass at those speeds with an extreme speed differential, particularly in a BEV.

I’ve been overtaken many times over the years by BMWs and the like, pushing 100mph while I was going 75mph, 80mph. At least with those cars, you hear them coming.

But BEVs are silent. Passing someone with a 25-30mph+ speed differential is very dangerous already, but it’s much more so with an electric because the other driver doesn’t feel it coming nearly as much.

I’ve had a couple of close calls over the years with Teslas, where I’m looking to change a lane at a junction, so is the Tesla behind me, they see the opening, suddenly swerve into the other lane and floor it just as I’m changing lanes. Someone doing something like this is dangerous enough as is with a Mustang GT, it’s much more so with a Mustang Mach-E GT where the other driver can’t hear you floor it.

Lucky for me I didn't need a trade-in so was able to hold onto my Volvo S60CC which has it's own set of snow tires & rims for winter in PA. Otherwise I would have considered getting a set of winter tires for the GTPE, or more than likely getting a different trim (non GT) due to the overall risk of someone running into me in a brand new MachE vs a 6 year old Volvo. I never realized how much a difference true snow tires with AWD make on a car until I had the S60.
I drove the GTPE in the rain on Sunday (darn weatherman was wrong again..) without any issues.

I can open the frunk with the app.

A couple details when you do it:

You have to be close (Bluetooth connected) or the frunk, trunk, and windows up/down are greyed out.

Also, opening the frunk remotely is super loud. CLUNK CLUNK!!
