Told I had to get the image processor updated. Been here at Auto Nation for 3 hours, waiting for this to be completed.

Wonder if they have ever done this before.

Anyone else had this done?

Yes, I had the Image Processing Module A (IPMA) Software Update done on Nov 12th. They had to try the update two times because the first time it failed. That attempt took a couple hours. The successful installation only took about 3 minutes according to the logs.

My car was in for other non-software issues too, so I wasn't waiting at the dealership.

I did not notice any difference in the main screen performance, it is still slow.
Was this for something else.?
The ACC is much different in responding to lane keep then my Tesla.
Anyone noticed that ?

I have not had a chance to use ACC + Lane Centering since the update was completed. But I will tomorrow.

I've not seen any real difference in the Sync screen speed either.

Even before the IPMA update the ACC + Lane Centering was working just like Tesla's basic Autopilot (from what I've seen on YouTube since I don't have a Tesla). It adjusts the speed and actively steers to hold my position in the lane center.

Image processing has nothing to do with the display in the car. It refers to how the car handles the video input (presumably the only video input of interest is the camera behind the rear view mirror). “Image processing” is “looking” at images and identifying significant features (like speed signs, lane markings, pedestrians, cyclists, and so on). I would expect that ford would be updating their image processing algorithms over time. The biggest problem is that image processing is VERY compute intensive and there’s not a clean way to upgrade the actual processors (other than expensive and time consuming module swaps).

I think part of the confusion may be due to Ford's alphabet soup. If you're not dealing with it all the time it is easy to mix up the APIM and the IPMA and which functions they perform. ;)

To your point. I'll need to check if the 360 camera and backup camera are less glitchy than before. I didn't pay much attention to it the last time I drove.

We should be careful about the term “360 camera” so as not to trigger the “sentry mode” crowd. I finally got around to conducting my test (having a buddy walk around and approach the car from all angles) and, exactly - as I expected) those views are all synthetic views, based upon on processed imagery from the downward facing cameras. The 2021 Mustang Mach E Premium (my vehicle) does not appear to have any built-in cameras to provide a 360 degree view of the environment surrounding the vehicle, only a synthetic view of the ground immediately around the vehicle sufficient for low-speed parking-type maneuvers.

It's 360° in a flat plane, right? Meaning that you can see the ground in a circle around the car.

Precisely. But keep in mind that it’s a synthetic view and the distance away from the vehicle is limited.

Please define 'synthetic view'. Did your testing show that there is not 360° coverage on the ground?

It creates the illusion that there is a camera hovering above your car looking down when, in reality, images from multiple cameras are being pieced together.

See what the @TheVirtualTim said. Recall that the fields of view of the four downward-facing cameras is not sufficient from which to construct a true 360 degree view of the ground around the camera (let alone a true "birds-eye" view above the car). There is some interpolation involved in creating that illusion of a 360 view.

Of course the birds-eye aspect is virtual. You said you tested. Is there 360° coverage of the ground or not? If not, where is the missing coverage?

So you’re saying that there’s not actually a camera hovering above the car? I hope that didn’t really need to be said.
