I am writing this to talk about an open discussion to the following are related to blue cruise.
I'm saying I am a fan but what I've noticed about blue cruise in the highways here in California is that it has this dramatic affect when it's trying to correct itself while using the interstate freeways here in California which causes both myself and my wife to kinda get carsick and also get very close to other cars although I'm not worried about it hitting anything it's just a traumatic affect when it comes up to something that is next to it or it's trying to center itself in the lane it's very abrupt most of the time and it gives you the sense that somethings wrong so it's always having an uncomfortable feeling while you're driving which I believe discounts it's purpose. I don't know how many people use blue cruise and I've decided it's not really worth using because of the uneasiness it gives me with its abrupt adjustments does anybody have an ask any suggestions to make it more acceptable is there a setting somewhere or is this just something that is happening because California highway is are in a perpetual state of construction I don't know.

I use BlueCruise on my commute in So Cal. Yes, it does have issues in stop-and-go traffic, but for me, it is still better to use it than not. Like you, I think it could do a better job of braking more gradually when traffic in front slows. The weird thing is that sometimes it is just fine, and sometimes it is too abrupt. It isn't consistent.

I have noticed (and other people have reported too) that facing a low sun confuses the system.

It seems to me that the ping-ponging side-to-side has improved, as has staying in the center of a lane instead of hugging the right side, although the only software update I've had is the OTA map update. I wonder if they also put in some behavior adjustments.

So while the system isn't perfect, I still find that it reduces my driver workload and makes heavy traffic less stressful most commutes. I say that with just this morning having had to turn off BlueCruise because it wasn't having a smooth day.

I have opted in to Ford's data collection in the hopes that the more data they get, the better they can make the system.

My biggest issue, which is technically with the Adaptive Cruise Control and not technically Blue Cruise is when there's a slowdown ahead, but you are currently moving at high speed. For example, going 65 and you can see that everyone is stopping a little ways ahead. The car takes way too long to react and basically has to slam on the brakes at the last second. I don't know if it's because it can't see that far ahead, or if the programming is a little too reactive.
The opposite is true too. If somebody going slowly in front of you moves over, the car will speed up very quickly to fill the gap, then have to slow down again very quickly as it approaches the next car. I wish these transitions were a little more gradual.
At full highway speed, everything is great, and stop and go traffic is good if the stops and goes aren't too abrupt, but when you're in traffic that is fluctuating between 25mph and 65mph it can be pretty unnerving.

If you’re waiting on the car to slam the brakes when you see people stopping ahead, you are using it wrong.

It is a drivers aid, NOT self driving. When you look at it from that perspective it changes everything.

Do not wait for the car to slam the brakes or force you to take over. You should be alert and aware while using the systems and take over when you see something it can’t (like brake lights 3 cars ahead).

There was a great (but long) video talking about how to use these systems and it really changed how I look at them (as an aid).

Yep. I've tested the system enough to know that it works fine if the car in front of you is slowing to a stop but not if the car in front of you is AT a stop. Whereas ACC doesn't accelerate like I think a Mustang should, it brakes like a teenager in a Mustang!

When I see traffic is stopped ahead, I suspend the ACC and let the regenerative braking slow in plenty of time to stop safely.

As someone who does not yet have BlueCruise, I am sitting here wondering if the driving mode or the setback distance have anything to do with those issues. Like, if you have the shortest range, and unbridled selected, it makes sense that it would feel a bit lurchy. When perhaps the longest following distance in whisper might be somewhat smoother.

I wish. I generally keep a pretty long following distance (not much traffic in Eastern Washington), and it does the relatively abrupt stops no matter what mode I'm in. The ACC in my 2017 Highlander slows down much more gently than the MME does. (Although the MME can decelerate to 0, and the Highlander can't).

I've just chalked it up to "it is what it is" and generally adapted ChasingCoral's strategy of just suspending ACC when traffic is coming.

Also as I noted my first post does anybody have any issues with how it keeps in the lane like a car next to you mine seems to veer and then abruptly correct Vera and abruptly correct it doesn't seem to do anything smooth and if I notice the freeway veers to One Direction or the other like salmon elaine that transitions to the same interstate it won't let me do it then shuts off the blue Cruise things like that too.

1st place.

Longest sentence this week!

If the road doesn’t have good lines, the car has a hard time as it uses cameras to keep you in the lane

When you notice traffic ahead nudge the cruise speed lower with the steering wheel control (hold the toggle down for larger quicker adjustment) until the car slows to a reasonable level. This will not disengage ACC. Then let ACC control coming to a stop from this lower speed.

You can see if the ACC system is locked onto a vehicle ahead. There will be a graphic of brake lights on the rear of a vehicle just above the blue bubble in the drivers’s screen.

I have similar feelings to you with BlueCruise and think it’s mostly just a cool little gimmick right now. Wouldn’t pay for it, personally. I noticed that changing the settings so that lane centering is at the highest level was a major improvement. The car won’t move as much in the lane and you get significantly less ping-pong effect.

35 years of driving muscle memory means I can let up on the throttle when cars are slowing in front of me without even consciously thinking about it. But with ACC, my foot isn't even on the throttle, so I have to remember to turn it off, then put my foot on the pedal so I can feather it back, rather than having the regen stop it super fast (I'm in 1PD mode).
I'm sure I will get better at it, but this is my first car with adaptive cruise control. I almost never used cruise control on my previous cars, because they only had the old fashioned kind, so it was only useful on long drives to Arizona where there was nobody else on the road.

The best way to use BlueCruise/DriveAssist is to set up to use speed limit for adjusting speed ant to have it always on perioadically pausing and resuming on traffic lights, etc.
To turn BlueCruise/DriveAssist on/off use this button
Ford Mustang Mach-E Ford Blue Cruise issues ? 1646392976950

but you need to turn it once then never touch that button again through the whole trip.
If you need to pause DriveAssist temporarily to stop on the traffic light then press this button (do not move it up and down, just press on it)
Ford Mustang Mach-E Ford Blue Cruise issues ? 1646393157210

You'll see on your front screen the DriveAssist speed would still be there but it would be greyed out and crossed. When you need to resume drive assist just press that button again.
The DriveAssist gets paused automatically when you stop for a few seconds. So when you are ready to go you'll have to resume it manually.
The advantage of this approach versus turning on and off all the time is that even paused it keeps reading speed signs and adjusting the drive assist speed accordingly

While the seemingly last minute hard braking is disconcerting, you can believe that if it started braking sooner there'd be complaints about that as well.
