I had the same issue this weekend using EVgo. I had around 200kw of credit left on my FP account. I charged from around 20% to 60% and was charged a session fee even though I was never idle.

First off nearly $10+ for a session fee seems absurdly high to me. I've charged at many different locations in the past and have never been hit with a session fee at all. Hell, even their own website quotes $1.99 session fee for pay as you go.

When I called @Ford Motor Company today I was on the phone with them for an hour, and transferred around 3 times before they handed me off to EA. I have a ticket open with EA to get a refund, but I have no clue if they will do anything about it.

EVgo and EA are 2 different companies. Free plug and charge is on EA. $14.85 is about the right cost for 28Kwhr. on EVgo which is often more expensive and slower than RA.

EVgo is "in network", as well as ChargePoint and Geenlots.

Yes they are all “in network” but the free charging that comes when you buy the car does not work with EVGo. It only works with EA and Greenlots.

Your gratis Ford kWh are not redeemable at EVgo.

Guess you're right, with the exception of ChargePoint. My credits work with ChargePoint as well, but apparently that is only because EA and CharePoint have an interoperability agreement so they are effectively treated as one in the same network. Apparently in-network only applies your FP account payment method to those companies in the network. Clear as mud... ?

It also didn't help that they rolled up the cost under "Session fee". When I did the exact calculation, I paid $0.45 per kwh ($12.86) and a $1.99 session fee (total: $14.85).

Why are you on the phone with EA when you charged with EVgo?

Probably a question for @Ford Motor Company as they are the ones the transferred my call there even though I explained the situation to 3 different employees. I spoke to a manager at EA, explained the situation to him, even told him the exact location of the EVgo charger. He said he would look into it and get back to me. Puzzling indeed.

This is why I will stick with separate apps. When you put Ford in the mix, it messes everything up. Deal direct with each company. Reality for us has been nearly 100% EA chargers.

Can you use your free kwh directly from the EA app, or do you have to use FP?

EA doesn't know you exist. You MUST use FordPass or Plug and Charge.

OK. After you've used up your free kwh, assuming you have signed up with EA to get their preferential rate, will the Plug and Charge cost reflect the preferential rate or do you need to use the EA app to get that rate. If you use the app, what happens when you plug in? Does FP take over and overrides EA app? I seem to recall having read somewhere in the Forums that EA app and FP don't play well together. All of this is relevant only if one signs up with EA to get their discount, which is the only way to make their kwh rate competitive.

If you want to use EA Pass+, you must initiate charge via the EA app. Therefore, you either have to disable Plug and Charge, or activate the charger with the EA first, and then plug in.

Ford says that they'll be incorporating a discount with Plug and Charge, but it was withdrawn when the discount wasn't processing. Apparently it's fixed now, but you can't sign up yet.

We're leaving on a trip shortly, and will be activating Pass+ for $4 a month that morning, and immediately deactivating it so it expires a month later. Can't beat that!

That was my understanding. Thanks for confirming.

That's exactly what I will be doing when my car gets here! (ETA 04/05 - but who knows, it's somewhere on a Norfolk Southern train, between KC and Delaware, and then on a truck to NYC area, grrr)
