I have no faith in it happening by the end of the month.
I will be happy as long as long as it by April 25th and completed I will be happy. Reasoning being is I am going on a long trip on the 28th on blue cruise roads and I really want it working by then and that gives me enough time to make sure sure it is on.
You have just guaranteed that it won't happen until at least May... ?

At this point, the thing I am interested in the most is if any vehicles over 36k miles will get the BC OTA at all. I have about one month left. Will be curious if the OTA notifications appear on my screen after that milestone is reached. ???
Why wouldn't they? It's an opportunity for them to make money through BlueCruise subscriptions.

Also, FWIW, my 2019 F150 received a major Sync update (3.4 I think?) after the bumper to bumper warranty expired, so there's a precedent for sending OTA updates to out of warranty vehicles.

Ford can maintain BlueCruise subscriptions with standalone map updates, and standalone software updates, focused entirely on maintaining BlueCruise, without doing any OTA updates for anything else.

Historically, Ford does not update vehicle software beyond warranty expiration, except for recalls. An example would be an update to software for the transmission of an F-150 that prevented abrupt deceleration at high speeds if the lead frame failed, which was coupled with an extension of warranty to 10 years for the lead frame itself.

Another example would be our 2010 Fusion Energi, which tripped a code well out of warranty for something that had been diagnosed with a TSB (technical service bulletin) years earlier. TSBs are not applied unless the vehicle exhibits the behavior they are designed to fix. Therefore, since warranty had expired, the software fix cost me one hour of labor (took minutes).

Ford hasn't stated anything about keeping anything, or everything, updated outside of warranty to my knowledge. Expecting them to do so, based on history, is likely mistaken.

Thanks, definitely pretty clear it would be done in quarter 1, 2 days to go.
Totally agree, except that it's 4 days to go.

LOL That's right, 31 days in March and count today.
Given this forum, I would expect at least 1 person to come here and debate that you count today... :rolleyes:o_O?

It seems like over the air updates for the infotainment system is relatively risk free.
Updates to the power train modules are much higher risk apparently.

My Focus Electric received Sync3 updates well after warranty expired as well so maybe Ford would follow that same plan for infotainment? My guess is that some updates will have some sort of splash page where you have to agree to release Ford from liability in the event the update causes some other issue.

I could imagine a scenario where the main screen has a defect of some kind (glitchy APIM etc) and then an update is pushed and the owner claims the update caused the fault (when it existed prior to the update already....)

I am already having an issue with physical button that closes the lift gate (the plastic one...not the rubber button). I think it is wearing out because I sometimes have to press it 2 or 3 times to get the hatch the close. What is to stop me from waiting for the front hood release update to get pushed and then I claim it somehow caused my lift gate button to malfunction? Not that I would ever do that but the possibility for some owners to be somewhat malicious does exist.

From Ford's point of view, there is more risk than reward to continue to provide OTAs after the vehicle is out of warranty. My guess is some will continue to flow but not all. Let's see what happens. I will likely hit 36k before the next update becomes available for my FE so I'll try and remember to post back if that notice comes across my screen.

Both of your examples are TSBs with warranty implications and visits to the dealer.

Historically, OTA updates have not been limited by warranty and Ford would be stupid to discontinue support alienating their customer base while eliminating a possible revenue stream at the aame time.

It absolutely could have been more clear. He could have said "All cars will have BlueCruise in Q1". But as you've noted, that's not what he said.
There are an unknown number of Job 1 EA cars, enrolled in BlueCruise that will not receive it either (unless ford opens up the dealer install and we can get appointments at dealers ?)

Those stuck mid way through 1.7.1 might disagree ?
