It seems somewhat suspect to me. Kind of like cold fusion! I am not going to nay say it because they did not get into any specifics. The thing I found a bit hokey was they made it seem that with this method they could fill batteries at the same time in a battery pack - well that is how it is done now! Electricity is kind of like water flow though a pipe or hose. You can only get so much flowing though a certain size pipe. If you want more to flow you up the pressure (voltage) or gettin a bigger pipe (wire.) Not sure how you can get around these limitations.

You're forgetting.... this is the internet, where all things are possible.

All I can think of reading that is massive battery fires. How are you going to manage heat with that kind of throughput?

“Quantum charging could go well beyond electric cars and consumer electronics. For example, it may find key uses in future fusion power plants, which require large amounts of energy to be charged and discharged in an instant.”

We have fusion power plants?!

Sorry, I'm a little behind on the latest ways to squeeze a battery's worth of power through a wire in 9 seconds.
Bah! 9 seconds? That's nothing!

According to the laws of Quantum Mechanics, there is a finite probability that all of the electrons, which are supposed to go into your vehicle's charge, already ARE in the HVB! Hey presto, charging in 0 seconds!

You just have to wait for the exact moment when this is the case, and then drive off!

[Full disclosure: You might have to wait a tad for that to happen, but the actual charging process is lightning fast!]

?

P.S.: If there are chemists among you - I don't want to hear from you ? !

No. It does not going in front of the word "ceramic", as in "ceramic cereal" or "ceramic coffee".

In case anyone is unclear, this is total crap. They may have figured out an interesting phenomenon in the lab, but it isn't remotely close to a "technology". Charging a car battery at 400C, or 40MW for 9 seconds, dissipating 600kW of heat in the battery, is impossible today in the same way that sub-light speed interstellar travel is impossible.

I don't have anything against fundamental research, but I dislike how pop sci authors feel the need to make into a "here is how it could make your life more convenient!" even if that outcome could be 100 years away.

...that have arm-thick electrical cables to hold the juice without melting. So, sure... I can lift that.
