I won but only because he stopped accelerating at 70 mph.

I am in the Outer Banks, NC, this week. I was traveling down 158 from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head after a trip to Walmart. At a stop light, we lined up. I saw he hit it hard when the light changed and so I floored it hoping to pass him. We stayed even, with me slightly behind because he started first, for a few seconds before he chickened out. Which was good because I was not watching my speed and was at 74 when I passed him. We also passed two traffic police stops before and after our short race, so the boys in blue were definitely looking for troublemakers like us tonight.

I wish I could have beaten him without him giving up, but really. A motorcycle isn't a fair competition, is it? I never had a chance to hit the five second restriction, which would have been the end of the race anyway I suppose...

Depending on the bike, the top speed would have been between 160-210. You aren’t keeping up if the bike kept going, even if you didn’t have the 5 second restriction.

Bike vs car is definitely unfair. It’s also stupid and unnecessary on public roads.

I was definitely being stupid and unnecessary tonight. In fact, a car that can do 0-60 in less than 4 seconds is stupid and unnecessary. Which is exactly why I wanted it.

Having fun in general is usually stupid and unnecessary in my personal experience.

At least the bike knew he was in a race, unlike the ā€œopponentsā€ in 99.5% of the car forum ā€œI beat an Xā€ posts. ?

LOL....We are stupid in one way or another and depends on why Mike did what he did....IMHO--------> He wanted to see if his GT is remotely close to beating the bike.....Reading what happened & described, that bike rider seems inexperienced and probably a smaller CC Bike.

Now I am a retired Cop and have always side on the caution side but also the Spirit of the Law and not always on the Letter of the Law.

Mike: lesson learned but just be careful & think before you react next time because your 5000 lbs behemoth GT could have crushed the Biker if something out of your control popped up.

My 2 cents my friend.

I always drop my bike to idle when I reach a light or stop. I do this specifically so I don't inadvertently encourage someone to try to race me. I have lost too many friends and family to motorcycle accidents on public streets. I'm not going to do that to my family.

I will race my dirt bike where I know there's essentially zero chance of someone else involuntarily becoming involved in the experience.

[edited to add]
The slowest accelerating bike I've ridden is a big 1700 CC Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager (full touring bagger), which will do 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds.

Keep in mind that if the bike crashed, they go looking for the car racing it...

There wasn't much thought to it. He started to pull away from me so I floored it to see if I could pass him. Good thing he gave up first.

believe it or not, I got baited by an under cover. to make a long story short, I floored it and got to 130mph (which didn't take long already at 70mph) before he turned on his lights. didn't give me a ticket... but I about shat myself when I seen lights come on. wasn't expecting that car to be a cop car.

So he won either way?

I don’t believe you got to 130 in any Mach E!
