Sounds like a plan

(Though, I hate vodka, so I'm going to have to find a better mixed drink with something to do with equines.)
The official mixed drinks of the races in the Triple Crown are the Mint Julep, Belmont Breeze and Black Eyed Susan. One of those should be to your liking!

My estimated date is officially infinity.. Ford flat out told me they could not tell me when my car will be leaving Blount Island nor give me an updated date.... they told me to use the order tracker that doesn't even show my car as shipped .... ?‍♀
I'm just gonna sit here and enjoy everyone else's story until my car magically appears
What really blows my mind is we're all paying an $1,100 'Destination & Delivery' Charge . What a joke! They should be paying us that

Arrived Rail - Railcar # KCSM008240 (Kansas City Southern Railway Co )

FINALLY. WE ARE ON THE LAST LEGS LADIES AND GENTS!
H
Just finished a chat with Ford. Our Mach E went to shipped status (and we received an email) on April 18th. Ford just told me the vehicle was shipped via rail car AOK 501653 and was received at Ramp 5J, Lecheria, Cuap, EM on April 18th. It is expected to leave this location between May 11-May 17. That seems insane to me after our car has been sitting there built since March 7th. Is it really taking this long? Cars are sitting on rail cars for 3-4 weeks before they leave Mexico?
Stmthoma97 - we are on the same railcar AOK 501653!!!!

Update: received an email from Ford that our estimated delivery date is May 11-17. just wanted to post that here in case anyone else gets the same information I received yesterday from the Ford chat.

Wrong.

Ford needs to work on their systems a lot. ;)

Keep in mind that this vehicle is the first "online order" vehicle. Communicating to customers directly is new to Ford, beyond the "hey, here's a certificate for $2,000 off".

So they release a car to shipping, and that night it trips an email to the customer, before the systems realize that the arrival window hasn't been updated, update it, and that generates a new email.
And it’s even worse when they put 213 mme on a boat to Jacksonville. No where in any system. Palsapp still is waiting for me to get on a rail for KC. Meanwhile vvr says in port of Jacksonville (Blount island). Since 4/14. No further update
Never got the ship email,. Only the built.
My godchild is in IT. No one wants to work for Ford. They want to work for Facebook or Google. As ex-IT myself, I see lots of opportunities at Ford if they will spend the money.
These systems have to seamlessly work together. That takes talent and $$ to spend on technology.

i

t's the port it was brought into from the ship ... but then again they never knew that it was coming by ship ... so i've lost all faith in ford tracking vehicles ...

back to having my friends bolo I-95 and watching the dealership for deliveries ...
Me too, I check United Roads multiple times a day to see if there is a chance it got to the Miami consolidation site. Those of us who came by ship are now lost in space......

I think a lot of folks hope hires like Doug Field (From Tesla/Apple) will eventually improve the real time updates of EVs and bring in the necessary talent/skills to make it happen.

Reporting directly to the CEO, Jim Farley, hopefully will help give him power/weight to do what needs to be done.

All the youts want to work at FAANG (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google). They pay pretty darn well, but also demand a lot of your time to working. I've heard some pretty horrendous things come from several of those places. They also bear less brunt when things go askew (apart from internet blow-ups, the financial implications are less severe).

Ford does invest in the software (I have worked with a SW Contract company that did work with Ford). However I suspect there is a lot of "old guard" types in a big company like Ford who are slow to revolutionize their processes.

  • Companies like Ford, GM, etc working in a regulated space are required to adhere to processes driven by USDOT & NHTSA, that permeates all facets of SW development; It can be a grind!
  • Cyber security risks are non-trivial, with a risk-based approach to development, often favoring not releasing anything at all. Recent activities by each industry has put a focus on this, with collaborative workshops and training to help address the emerging new demands of cyber security in the connected world.
  • Difficulty managing cross-functional development between different departments, i.e. IT and Manufacturing (slow adoption to DevOps practices), and different sites, software packages (internal, OTS), etc.
  • Public-facing company has a "get it right the first time" mentality, leading to defaulting to a Waterfall SDLC, and few opportunities to just do something quickly and get it out.
You are absolutely right that it takes talent and money, which itself requires a commitment from Ford on driving this. I hope the recent announcement of the EV business split will attract that talent, and become a proving ground for SW development growth within
