I disagree that referring to statements someone is making in the same thread is doxxing, but removed it if they realized they did not want to share said details any more

FWIW my last ICE vehicle told me to wait 5 seconds before pulling the gas pump out

Maybe @RickMachE and I have more in common than we thought! Because I agree with him on this.

It comes down to what is reasonable, I think. It is reasonable to expect someone to move their car when it finishes charging at 3:00 AM? No, that is not reasonable. It is reasonable to expect someone to move their car when it is finished charging at 7:00 PM, or 10:00 AM or any other time that is not in the middle of the night.

That said, I think the airport example is an exception. It is not reasonable to expect someone who is getting on an airplane to move their car when it finishes charging. Airports just need to put in more chargers.

Hotels are one of the worst situations for bad charger etiquette. The possibility that the charger is needed to get to the next stop is pretty high, especially if there are no close DCFC stations.

So if you block a charger by parking your car there when it does not need a charge, you are likely significantly impacting someone else. Or at least more likely compared to other locations. Hotels are destinations and stops on long trips for most people, and those chargers are as important as home chargers IMO.
Most airports that we work with over subscribe 8:1. (8 plugs on one 40A circuit). In theory, if 8 EVs showed up at once and plugged in then they each would get about 4A each. But most EVs don't like L2 lower than 8A so we program them round robin style. 32A for 15 min and then switch off and the next car gets 15 min of charging and so on.

That works just fine for extended stay situations like an airport. We had a meeting last week with another contractor who had a special request from the aviation dept. That contractor makes the parking space counter systems that you see in some larger areas and they asked if their system could access our charge data to verify the vehicle is charging or already fully charged. If plugged in but not charging or not fully charged then they would get towed.

We told them that wouldn't work because the system uses round robin access so a car could be plugged and waiting for its turn to get some electron time. So now they are asking if there is a way to determine if the car is waiting for its turn. I don't see that in the data so we turned the question over to the EVSE manufacturers.

Things are getting interesting....

That´s what surprises me, because in Europe it is locked, when the car is locked.
Look, more good things for the European versions of the same car, like having a tow hook and being allowed to tow up to a certain amount of weight. :)

No, in the US, our chargers lock only if it’s a DC Fast Charger. Level 2 J1772 chargers pop right out if you squeeze the trigger on the charger handle.

First of all, I never would have said anything and would have preferred to keep it between us with a DM. I responded publicly because the edit you made was public. You looked up info based on my posts, googled garages, and posted a specific garage with a link to a map. You got the wrong one, but you got close.

Don't worry, next time I see @available_username2's car, I'll unplug it! He will definitely learn his lesson.

There is the East coast and the West coast. Everything in between doesn't count. Have you ever seen a train in Kansas?
Oh I see trains all the time, but they’re carrying train-stuff.

You better hope I don't catch you doing that, or else... I'll give you my phone number. Maybe we can grab a beer or something?
You went over the line. I agree the OP was wrong with his "don't touch my car or else" rhetoric, but you trying to find him and identify him on this forum is worse. Much worse.

Debating actions and opinions is one thing, but removing the anonymous layer we have in the forum because you disagree is over the line. Don't do it again. If he wants to reveal who he is and where is car is parked, he can do that. You don't have any right to do that for him.

My new EV6 has lock options and is currently set to stay locked until it finishes charging (J1772 and Fast)

Not much more to the story than the title. A Tesla drove up to my car in a parking garage, parked next to me, and unplugged a L2 charger from my car and plugged it in his.

Thankfully the car is fine. I have his license plate written down... is there any way I could look up this individual's information? Would like to give him a phone call and explain to him to never do that again.
was your car still charging?

After a night of sleep on it, I'm wiling to forgive and forget. I didn't mean for this to turn into a whole issue - not at all what I was looking to do with this post and not at all why I'm here on these forums. My "don't touch my car or else" rhetoric was out-of-line, and I'll tone that down in the future.

We can agree to disagree on if it's the right thing to do to unplug a car. I'll never unplug someone's car because I wouldn't want it done to me. If it were to become an actual issue (someone leaving their car parked over a weekend) I'd just speak to the garage manager and let them handle it.

After hearing everyone's opinions, I'll be more strategic in the way I charge my car. Typically, I'd plug in when I get down to 45-50% and every once in a while that resulted in the car being at 100% for an hour or two before I picked it up. Seeing how it upsets people to see a car plugged in and not charging, I'll probably look to get down to 30-35% before I plug in.
