I need the feedback of the hive mind. I currently have a 2016 Juice Box box plugged into a NEMA 14-30 and we are moving to New England. The new home's garage does not have 240V wiring. Should I have a new NEMA 14-30 installed and use the older Juice Box (which works fine) or buy a new hardwired unit? If I buy a new charger, should I buy a NACS and slap an adapter on it (to future proof it) or go with the J1772 for ease?

Thanks in advance.

I would get 240V wired with a 14-50 plug (higher current) and use your current EVSE with an adapter for that. Since you're going to need the wiring anyway no matter the route you choose this would seem to be the least expensive option.

If you need more current later then get the EVSE.

Agrees with Jamie. Bring your current EVSE with you. Wire up a 50A or 60A 240V circuit in your new garage and either hard wire it (set the EVSE to 48A or less) or plug it in (set to 40A or less). The delta in material cost is not insignificant compared to a 30A circuit, but the labor is going to cost the same, so total install cost will change only incrementally. It makes little sense to hobble your EVSE with a brand new 30A circuit. ??

I had a similar dilemma when we moved. Brought the hard wired EVSE with me but it took me a year to wire it in. Lived with a L1 EVSE for a year. It was fine for our needs, but it is nice to have the L2 back online.

My opinion: hardwire it if you have the option.

agree with the others, update the breaker box in the new garage for a nema 14-50 plug. I know a lot of people say to go with hardwired, I don't happen to agree, three years with my nema 14-50 plug and have had zero issues. It's much easier to take with you if you move too.

Some of this advice may not meet electrical code so beware.
The breaker needs to be sized for the load.
If you install a 50 amp breaker with your 14-50 outlet and then use an adapter, it will not properly protect your 30 amp Juice Box.

Check with the local electrical utility to see if they offer a EVSE at a discount.
THIS ^^^

My utility gives me $500. Why would I want to use an old JB when I can have a new hardwired 48amp charger for nearly free.

$500 rebate and then 30% tax credit on both the install and the remaining charger price. Same reason I put in a 2nd one when we went all EV. No brainer.
