I'm still under the opinion that your FMC is defective and hopefully you can get a dealer to replace it. The specs state that it will operate up at temperatures up to 50C, so you shouldn't be having this issue.
How about the heat the charger produces AND 100F ambient temp charging over many hours everyday? Would that make a difference? Serious concern.

As a former designer of electrical equipment I can tell you that the ambient temperature rating of piece of equipment is the maximum external temperature where the device can successfully operate at full specs continuously.
But heat contributed by the device can add to the ambient temperature, especially if ventilation is inadequate.
My hope is that we have a few of these chargers with bad components and not a design flaw that affects them all.

I have been getting this quite often recently, with the ford mobile charger. the APP doesn't have a option to send notification when error occurs, so I just have to check with my app from time to time to see whether the charging stops... I'm in Austin TX, temp gets to mid 80s now. if it's temperature related, can't imagine how it can go through the summer.

That’s my concern too. I’ve decided to plan to buy a dumb charger. I wonder how humidity effects them?

Sounds like your work would benefit from some permanent chargers installed, get all the EV owners together and get it done

It’s an RV dealership, so it has 14-50 outlets all over the place. I wouldn't press it if they’re already letting me plug in.
The old “gift horse in the mouth” thing!

I would add that I have seen some devices that were “rated” to perform to the rated temperature of some of the components in the device, but obviously didn’t ventilate well enough to keep the components below their maximum operating temperature. I have designed a number of mission critical enclosures using common sense and fluid dynamics simulations, then validated (or invalidated and redesigned) by measuring the most susceptible components during moderate to heavy operation. A component may be rated for 50C, but depending on the dynamics of its enclosure, may be only capable of withstanding 35C ambient temperatures. ???

Absolutely.

The FMC as a unit is rated 50C (not its components). One would hope that the rating is valid under normal conditions of use. Without knowing how the designers came up with the rating, what standards it was designed to, or how it was tested, we can only speculate.

Exactly. There’s probably over 1000 14-50 outlets on the property and most have their own breaker. I’m just happy they let me plug in for free. It’s a drop in the bucket of electricity I’m sure. I can’t even imagine what we spend on electric each month!

A good replacement for the FMC would be one of the travel Clipper Creek chargers then.

Thanks! I’m going to the dealer tomorrow. Like usual, I haven’t had a charge fault since I made the appointment. I did have a service vehicle soon notice pop up today and then nothing else. Hopefully they can figure something out.

I charged overnight on 120V last night and it didn't error out. still can't rule out what's the cause, onboard charger or mobile charger.

My gut is saying this might be an issue with the charging outlet. Are you sure it is well maintained? Personally, I have not used the FMC yet, but whenever I got a charging error, it was the charging station that caused the issue.

You may try to charge it in other places.

Having used the FMC a lot, in my case the issues were NOT caused either by my 14-50 circuit or connection issues. I will be interested to see if Ford replaces your FMC under Warranty?
