The May issue of Mustang Times magazine, which all MCA members either get delivered or can access electronically, contains on page 62 a full page “Letter to the Editor” I wrote about my Mach-E GTPE. I wrote to the editor after reading his editorial about the Mach-E in the April issue, and he reached out to me asking if he could have a couple of pictures, and use what I wrote to him in a future issue. Of course, I agreed. I wanted to share my experience and perspective with the editor, who likely hasn't yet driven a Mach-E GT Performance Edition, as there are so few around. Note that my sole intention in reaching out to the editor was to provide insight from a “car guy’s” point of view, and expect that those of you who can access the article will appreciate what I had to say.

That’s excellent. Thank You for taking time to write to them. I take it that his initial editorial about the MME was unfavorable?

Looks to me like the MCA has been tiptoeing very carefully around the Mach-E, as they've gotten negative feedback from the masses. The general tone of his editorial was begrudging, forced acceptance, but I took exception to a particular statement in putting together my response. Have to say he was open and supportive of my speaking up, giving me a full page and showing my picture of both my GTPE and Convertible together. Maybe he saw it as a way to get a positive Mach-E message out that wouldn't be attributable to him. He did agree to share feedback he gets on the article with me, as I'm curious how the Mustang faithful will respond.

I joined for the discount. I would stay joined but the snottiness is too much to bear. If that's how they feel, then y'know... f-em. They can do without my renewal money.

Gatekeepers are the worst part of any fanbase, for anything.
But since you joined you'll get the May issue- would appreciate your thoughts on it.

Looking forward to it.

And out in the real world, I have not encountered any actual hostility from Mustang owners. A little bit of a raised eyebrow... and it's clear most don't think it's a "true" Mustang... but they've been nice about it, curious about it, and want to talk about it and learn about it.

I'm sure there are exceptions. But that's been my experience so far.

I think your response was perfect.

The saddest thing about people gatekeeping is that they usually do it before they even try the thing they're against. In fact, they often use their echo chamber to create justification for gatekeeping. It's good to challenge these people, when possible.

My experience has been similar- lots of curiosity from most people at the local cruises and Cars and Coffees I've taken it to. Many of these people have known me prior with my Mustang GT convertible, so we've been friends for a while. So far, though, I've been the only electric at these events, and I get a lot of those questions from some people trying to point out perceived negatives. My positive answers routinely disappoint them.
