Agreed, I am in the Ford camp, but I cheer on GM and Tesla and Hyundai/Kia. At least for Ford and GM, they are very accustomed to being comfortable. The F-150 is going to sell like crazy. Ford may sweat the top sales crown a bit, but even second or third place is still a money printing machine that is larger than most entire companies in the world. The Explorer/Tahoe and that will also sell, no problem. The market is large and established.

But EVs are the wild west. Every mile of range and "frunk" like added functionality is covered in overwhelming detail by every traditional News and YouTube reporter you can find. And they have a lot of improvements to make. Wheels shouldn't be falling off Toyotas and junction boxes shouldn't be failing on Mach-es. These issues impact a hilariously small number of cars compared to even the smallest F-150 recall, but they are at the same time way more important because the people that buy EVs right now tend to be more engaged and are putting down significant cash.

So keep the competition going. Within a decade 400 mile range will hopefully be what passes for "Standard range" for Mach-e priced vehicles, with 450-500 starting to make it into the Extended Range. Maybe solid state battery packs and more low cost options. It's why I think getting an ER Mach-e is important if you intend to sell in 5 years or so, because I think with all the investment going into EVs, we will find that in just five years what passes for extended range now will be on the "economy car" level standard range level, and what is standard range now will be looked at like a Nissan Leaf.

We will see though. I am clearly optimistic about the rate of advancement, but I feel I have good reason to be. If you look at just ten years of Tesla's advancement with their EVs, what I describe isn't out of line. If you look at a 2012 Model S with the largest battery pack, it was EPA rated 265 miles range and 90kW supercharge capability.

A 2022 Model S (non-Plaid) shows 400 miles range, 250kW Supercharging, etc.

Obviously this is top end in terms of price and that, but just talking about range differences between a vehicle in a 10 year span, and from a company whose only real competitor was itself. Now we have insane money being pumped into R&D by much, much larger companies. I think we will see ten years of advancement in five, and that competition will be the reason.

And of course the Lincoln BEVs will be better than the Cadillac BEVs ?

Perhaps we should organize some sort of "free market" economy, in which manufacturers and service providers are able to compete earnestly for consumers' disposable income.
