Hi All,

Recently got a level2 plug installed in my garage and am seeing a amber and blue light in mobile charger. Any idea what may be wrong. Car is charging fine without any issues though.

I think that means the unit is overheating and charging speed reduced? Nothing you’re doing wrong most likely. Lots of people posted about the included mobile charger not being able to sustain daily usage and overheating like this.

Might consider getting a permanent EVSE that can attach to your new outlet.

It is or thinks it is overheating and it slows the charge speed down quite a but. Mine was doing this after 10monhts of use, everytime i charged. I had ford replace mine and i got a new charger (pulsar wall box) and that has worked without issue. New ford charger i put in the car for backup

Feel or measure the temp of the wall plug and the J1772. One of them may be hot. They have a protection thermistor in each.

Maybe this helps. Is the blue pulsing?

Kinda crazy that with all those light combos it doesn’t list the most common one:

on on off

That’s what it seems to show when the charger is hot.

Although it lists it as “on pulsing off” for hot.

Right….I think the OP is experiencing the typical overheat throttling that so many others have seen.

The Ford portable EVSE is a piece of junk. Mine does the same thing when the ambient temperature is warm.

My charger was constantly doing this after maybe 8 months or so of using it. I had made a post about it, Ford messaged me, I got in touch with someone and they said something along the lines that they haven't seen this issue and closed my case lol. Even though that post had multiple people complaining about the exact same thing. Mind you, this was in our winter time, it was down in the 50's at night and I still got this error and either failed or INCREDIBLY slowed charges.

I replaced it with a after market charger and have not had the issue again.

Thanks for posting. I am experiencing the same issue after only a few weeks of ownership. I scheduled a service visit with the service center 'EV expert' to take a look. We'll see.

I wouldn’t bother going to the dealer for this.

Unless you car isn’t charging at all, this just means your charger is getting hot sometimes.

Totally normal.

I used the Ford Mobile one for a year. Started to do the same thing--it worked, but occasionally would get hot and slow down. I just recently broke down and bought one from Costco. Mobile one is in the trunk.

I used mine at a hotel, down in the basement parking garage, which was pretty warm. I didn't check the temperature but it was warm enough to cause a 32 Amp overheat condition.

I used 120V all night and it worked normally. I put the EVSE on the concrete floor under my car, thinking maybe the concrete would help with heat dissipation. Who knows if that made a difference or not, but it didn't overheat.

Had my car for just over 3 months. Same exact symptoms. Ridiculous that this charger failed so quickly. How do you go about getting a replacement under warranty from the dealer UGHHHHHH
