I came into my garage late last night and immediately noticed the smell of something electrical.

My Ford Mobile charger amber light was on. Usually when that happens I unplug it for a few minutes and plug it back in and it’s just fine.

Not this time. Amber light stays on after multiple attempts. I even switched the connector to a 120v and it’s still amber.

I’ve had it for a year….thoughts everyone? Did my charger finally crap out?

amber lights on a regular basis perhaps were trying to tell you to fix something..... My best guess would be a loose connection in the circuit, or a bad ground. Or, perhaps ground on same buss as neutral. First step however would be to make sure the 'pigtail' is fully seated in the charger; probably best to pull it out, inspect connection for debris or evidence of arcing, and re-insert.

Take your charger somewhere else that has 240v.... and see if the charger works there. That will tell you if there is a problem w charger, or your 240v circuit.

If you're "smelling something electrical," turn off the circuit breaker and investigate further until you find the cause.

Check the wiring behind the wall plate, too.

You stated the 120V connector also isn't working... So could be something melting inside the Ford EVSE. ?

Something was burning or melting from getting too hot. Could be your outlet, the wiring behind it, or something in the charger. You should turn the breaker off and investigate.

They don’t seem to be built tough enough for every day use! I have had to reset mine from the breaker several times but it continues to come back blue! Also, I have had the intermittent warning light issue but the car continues to charge just at a slower rate. We have had the car for 9 and 1/2 months.

Were you able to get a replacement from your dealer?
