I’m having a lot of trouble with PAAK, potentially in connection with 1) getting a new iPhone and 2) having a lot of PowerUp updates over the last couple of weeks.

I got a new iPhone 14 Pro, installed FordPass, got CarPlay, etc. going, and then tried to setup PAAK. It kept failing and specifically said it couldn’t connect to Bluetooth in the car. (It got stuck on the part where you copy the pairing code and wait for the prompt to come up and paste the code.) I previously had PAAK working fine on my iPhone 12 Pro, though I confess I haven't tried to use it since the last slew of PowerUp updates (including the recall update) were installed over the last week or so.

I read that a good step when you have trouble is to Reset Phone as a Key on the vehicle. Problem is that option is greyed out in my car. I can do a Master Reset or a FordPass Connect Rest (or Vehicle Hotspot Reset), but Phone As A Key Reset is greyed out and unavailable. See photo below.

I called Ford, and after 45 minutes on hold, they told me first that I needed to upgrade my iPhone to iOS 16.3 (which doesn’t exist yet) and then to take it to the dealership for troubleshooting.

Before I do that, which sounds like it will be a huge hassle, has anyone encountered this type of situation before – specifically “Phone as a Key Reset” being greyed out? Any suggestions for next steps short of making an appointment, hauling the car down there, waiting for hours, etc.?

I had the same problems after upgrading to iPhone 14 pro. I ended up taking the car to the dealer. I also deleted the app and then reinstalled it. I am still having lots of connectivity problems with bluetooth. Connects with no problem and then it will not connect at all. I have tried everything so looks like it will have to go AGAIN to the dealer.

Was the dealer actually able to get it to pair?

Way to go Ford! Nice to see Ford reaching out to us. Today mine lost the Paak 3 times and said NO KEY this happened before on my iPhone 12 but now happening on my 14. Just strange. I will try delete app and reinstall on my phone but not seeing that’s the issue since it’s a new phone and newly downloaded and installed app and signed in. Let’s try. Good luck! Thank you Ford!

Problem is I cannot do this step because it is greyed out for unknown reasons.

B.2 - in MME - Reset Phone as a Key to clear any partial Key stored in MME using the following steps on MME console after starting MME. This is mostly from p63 of user manual, but I've included some pictures to help find the right place in the Console Settings:

1. Press Vehicle - Settings on the console touchscreen
2. Press General tab
3. Press Reset.
4. Press FordPass Connect Reset.
6. Confirm you would like to continue with erasing all Phone as a Key,
and Backup Start Passcodes by Pressing 'Continue' on the pop-up dialog.

I probably have to take it to the dealership but I just don’t feel like it’s worth the hassle to address a feature that will likely just break again soon given the posts here. I’ll wait for something else to go wrong (or annual service) to get it addressed at this point.

After reading this and other threads and considering the fiasco of recent OTA’s, I think I will stay with my iPhone 12 until I sell the car. Don’t want to have to deal with more phone and car play problems

All I really want is to find a Lightning fob so I can open the Frunk from outside the car, and then PaaK will be a thing of the past for me :)

Didn’t someone post where we can buy a FOB that can handle That.

I will try to find it.

you may need to completely remove your PAAK and BT configuration, and install everything fresh.

I think nothing was right after upgraded from iPhone 12 to a iPhone 14 and at the same time the car completed 2 or 3 updates and iPhone updated as well. SOFTWARE WRECK!

I actually this morning deleted every phone, profile, including deleted Bluetooth connections in phone and deleted car from ford pass(don’t worry it will restore previous settings) also deleted fordpass and reinstalled and signed back in to restore the PAAK.

1. Only have one phone and car key near the car you plan to set up fully updated and fresh Ford Pass app installed

2. Setup new profile with KEY Don’t Panic the phone will be greyed out.

3. Go ahead and click Apple CarPlay and add phone (you will know that Bluetooth is working)

4. Go to Ford Pass app sign in and add car with Vin number

5. Confirm on the cars screen the email is correct

6. On Ford Pass click restore Ford connected services

7. Paak will install from app now and then you can setup door code and personal backup password.

8. I believe any major change with phone or OS or car update this process is going to have to be done. Any software touch(change) to Bluetooth just seems to never adapt as it should once completed. I have dealt with since 2013 back when I used MyFord Mobile to communicate with my energy. The only thing is sync software was updated by a usb stick. Phones are always updating!

I hope this helps someone!

I will monitor my connection loss if it happens again I will advise what I believe is happening or what I end up doing.

I ended up resetting everything ("Reset All" Under Ford Connected Services reset) and I'm still having the same issue. Automatic profile linking to the physical key fob is also sort of messed up -- the car generally starts in Guest Mode now.

I actually think this has less to do with my iPhone, and more to do with the Recall Updates I received earlier this week.

It's not bad enough that I feel the need to take a special trip to the dealer given how long of a wait they generally have, so I'll just endure the experience until something gets totally wonky...

Everything was great all day and then Tonight the car again went into throwing a fit and no longer connects to Bluetooth CarPlay or even as a cell. I ended up hitting the reset buttons to make it work. This is definitely a Ford issue not an Apple issue. Ford! (Bluetooth is connected for Paak but will not connect for phone use) this is 100% accurate information)

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 12 Pro Max to a 15 Pro Max and have been having issues trying to get PaaK working as well. Tried everything from all threads related to this issue but nothing seems to work. My problem is that:

1) Bluetooth pairing fails in PaaK setup (but strangely works in CarPlay sync)
2) I am unable to reset PaaK on my car (it always comes up with PaaK reset failed)

I had zero issues syncing my old iPhone 12 Pro Max with the car, which makes me suspect the culprit to be some bluetooth update that needs to be installed onto the mach E.

Update: I got PaaK to work; PaaK reset came in a success after a few hours of trying and I was then able to re-connect phone as PaaK. It may be a server lag issue. If you get a ‘Phone as a key reset failed’ error, try back in 6 hours or so and see if it works. Good luck!
