Mileage drop in less than month

Hey, everyone:

Bought my 2022 Premium eAWD Standard Range less than a month ago. LOVE IT! Drove it off the lot with 224 miles. No real cold weather here in Delaware yet and not running the heat or air like crazy. My target range at 100% is now down to 189 miles. I know I've read on this forum that it may just be what it is, but is there any explanation for this? It's lost 15% of its capacity in less than a month. Is this normal? Seems like a really dramatic drop to me in only one month.

Ford must have installed the wrong battery at the factory! Oh, it's standard range, never mind then.

Jokes aside, this is normal. The range estimate is just that, an estimate. It depends on battery capacity, which drops along with temperature (try driving in -10F weather right after a DCFC charging session, during which the battery is warmed well into the 90s, you will see the range estimate drops alarmingly faster than actual miles driven; then park the car outside where temperature drops to -20F in the early morning hours, and you will lose another big chunk of "range" overnight) and higher speed/use of heating.

The range estimates are fairly accurate as long as your upcoming trip is similar to how your drove the last few hundred miles, and the ambient temperature remains the same. It was an eye-opening experience last winter when temperature dropped by nearly 50 degrees in a matter of hours. In summer range estimates are 285-290 miles for my car, an AWD with Extended Range battery; one Saturday I drove 267 miles including a mix of highways and backroads, with an estimated 22 miles left when I plugged it in at home, but there is no way I can travel to New York City and back without any charging along the way - even though the distance is about the same, it's mostly at highway speed.

Well, if I could stay off the highway for a few days in the summer, my 270 mile rated premium 4x would have shown well north of 300 miles as well, but that never happens so 290s are as high as I ever see.

Gotcha. Now, hypothetically, on those warm summer days, will the range reset to something in the 224 vicinity or are those miles "lost for good," so to speak?

Honestly probably closer to 250 depending on your driving -

My SR RWD Select has ranged seasonally from 150 to 299 miles at 100% -in the almost two years I’ve owned it.

Been and EV guy for almost a decade so doesn’t phase me one bit.

My GOM used to be damn spot on, I was one of the few that had a very good meter. Now, however, I live in a "higher elevation" area and driving down hill one way and up hill the other. The GOM is all over the place, I don't think I've seen a range higher than 250 since moving up here.

It for sure a rude awakening! I remember last year my Mache was getting a range of less than 140 miles in the dead of winter. I live in Massachusetts. If you have a garage, park it in the entire winter. It helps a bit. I wish I had bought the extended range just because of this. Wish my dealer had mentioned it at the time of purchase. Of course I should have known this being a chemist, batteries are chemical reactions they go a lot slower when it's cold.

It may just be your filling with lower quality electrons

Never really thought about this. I've been only using 91 Octane electrons, perhaps the OP is using 87 Octane electrons?

There is a YouTube video from a guy in the UK with a CA R1. His GOM and % dropped. Then he rest the driving statistics and it went back to what he was expecting.

I guess the moral of that story is to just keep resetting the driving history to make your car go farther.

mine is down to 280 with the chilly rain and my lead foot

My car has an EPA range of 270 miles. That was before I got the update that added 3 kWh to the available battery capacity. Today my GOM is showing an extrapolated range of 233.7 miles. This is normal, because I have a lead foot and it is getting colder.
