I agree, that's not consistent at all. I don't get it.

And to this point, why just the Model Y AWD 3-row and NOT the Model Y AWD 2-row? There's *literally* nothing different except a 3rd row.

But for the ID.4, AWD == SUV. There's no third row option, but the RWD version is considered a car. Isn't that super contradictory?
Ford Mustang Mach-E 2023 Mach-E priced over $55K & delivered in 2023 will not qualify for tax credit! Latest IRS ruling says Mach-E is a CAR - not SUV ! 1672349946349

Then no Escape PHEVs should qualify as SUVs. They all are 2WD. The Corsairs have AWD.
Yeah I'm not sure, there's probably an exception somewhere. Or maybe it still qualifies if another variant of the same model has AWD or something?

So the F150L gets the 80k limit, seats 5. The MME weighs more than 99% of ICE F150s but doesn't qualify? I expect some OEM backlash incoming. Someone at the IRS doesn't know which end is up....

So does this mean I’m screwed since I added a measly $400 in options?
I believe as long as you’re not scheduled you can change your order. I have a base select on order so Im well under 55k

I am not scheduled yet. I was under the impression that orders could not be altered once submitted. If that’s not the case then I certainly don’t need $7500 floor mats or wheel locks or whatever stupid thing I bought. I don’t see a way to edit my order though?

eta: just put a call into my dealership, a manager is supposed to call me back. Fingers crossed I can get the options canceled

It all started with this press release from the White House today:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/cleanene...-can-save-on-2023-electric-vehicle-purchases/

This links you to the aforementioned IRS guidance listing the vehicles. But if you select the link for defining key terms, you go here to this IRS Notice:

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/n-23-01.pdf

Which, if you read through will tell you that vehicle classification is to be consistent with CFR 600.002, which you can find here with all the hyperlinks to any other code references needed:

https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/40/600.002

Happy researching everyone…

F150 is **OBJECTIVELY** a truck. It's not up for a sedan/SUV debate.

Interesting. What is to keep a manufacturer from selling the car for $20k and charging $40k for D&D? Sounds like something Musk would do. :)
Jail time.

I have a very honest tax accountant and whenever I ask questions that are "questionable" he usually replies back that if you don't want to get into trouble, don't do it. I listen to him so I can sleep well at night.

Yes, they could maybe do it but it would land them in hot water for sure....................on second thought, exactly what Musk may do. ;)

This is fascinating. It’s a bit of an endless cycle going from one definition to another. I don’t quite understand how the 3 row model y made it as an suv considering the frame and body is the same and it has less cargo space than a 2 row.

If you do not have a build date I would call my dealer and drop that $400 package like a hot potato.
