Just in case Ford reads these forums, I would like to request to have more energy data displayed on the instrument cluster. Ideally, it would be customizable.

Below is a "mach-up" I made, based on the ICE Mustang's instrument cluster.

Like so many other vehicles, I would expect to be able to toggle through various center section options by short pressing the "OK" button on the steering wheel. If the "OK" button isn't an option, they could add a soft button to the upper left of the center display.

Center section options could include:
  • trip info
  • battery/power info
  • navigation
  • music
  • driver assistance
Seems like there is a lot of empty space on the current instrument cluster where FoMoCo could let us choose what to display. Chime in with other ideas for improving the driver display to help us drive more efficiently.
Dang that's a gorgeous center cluster display! ?

It's always bothered me that the Mach-E has such a limited center cluster display screen. I have no idea why Ford did not just approach this like they were designing the display for a regular vehicle with regular data points and configurable display options, and just substitute some of the metrics for those that make sense for EV'S. But instead what they gave us in one of their flagship vehicles is an instrument cluster that lacks any sort of customization, as well as very basic information.

That mock up won't work because the steering wheel covers both of those gauges for most people. I have to look through my steering wheel and usually move my hand out of the way on the left side to see the power meter I don't/can't have.

Love this so much I could not help but tweet Jim Farley and @FordMotorCompany directly. Might I suggest others do this as well so that we actually get some eyeballs on this with the ability to make it happen?

They didn’t leave much room for adjusting the steering wheel AND viewing the display, did they? I can see how many would prefer a steering wheel position that blocks the corners. I noticed that I left out PRNDL in my “mach-up”. As I think about this, probably room to squeeze the gauges toward the middle while still being able to have a selectable screen in the center.

Good god, man. This is a car. Not the space shuttle. My eyes need a rest now.
All of those mini gauges in the center is just my idea for a selectable center screen. It would be really cool if Ford had whisper, engage, and unbridle themes for the instrument cluster while allowing us to select them independent of the driving mode. I think I just found my next iterations!

in addition to mi/kWh and currently playing song, it would be nice to see a brief trip odometer summary. Also, a small summary of tire pressures - not just the stupid idiot light

I wonder if ford could develop some kind of widgets, or cards, or something to put on the main display to show snippets of key information from apps that aren’t in the large window of that display?

Nah, something complex like that would be too difficult for Ford to develop ??? Better that they keep their technical talent focused on trying to solve the mystery of implementing a remote frunk release ???
Actually, mine has done that for the last 2 years. I just thought everyone had the same. There are cards along the lower part of my big screen. I can see at a glance the mi/kWh for the trip I am presently on, along with miles traveled. If I want more detail or the same information on the two most recent trip resets, I can just touch the card and am presented with the other options. I don't know whether to call those "widgets" or "cards", but there are several others on my display as well. When I am done with the trip card, I can touch the navigation card to bring that big map back to the big screen.

Yes, but now somebody is gonna say it takes your eyes off the road too long to look “way down there.” Much less distracting to look at this…

Is that the simplified version of the new Google interface?

You know that the steering wheel is adjustable, right?
Yeah, and that’s where it’s almost comfortable for me. I’d rather not feel like I’m driving an RV when driving my MME.

They do read the forums, especially problem reports. That is why it is important to include your version of the SYNC software.

Or their suppliers. If I remember correctly, I think the instrument cluster is purchased from Continental. It feels like there is some work to do with integrating the information being passed around the vehicle network. Those who have gone into FDRS can tell you how many little computers (ECUs) there are. I mean, the seats have an ECU!
