I think it will be years away. The entire concept of sleeping in the drivers seat scares me. I talked to one of my clients who has it in their 2021 Tesla X said it was a complete pain in the ass to use. They took it off after about 5 minutes. The reason??? Every minute or so the car would make you do something like Turn the wheel slightly, look to the right or left momentarily or move your hands on the steering wheel. Their comment was basically that it was far more difficult to keep the automatic driving on then to just put the cruise control on and drive it your self.

If I had to do all of that, which honestly makes sense because it makes sure that you are paying attention to the road, I would just do cruise as well. It has lane control and blind side avoidance and pedestrian avoidance so in short If I start to veer out of the lane it will tell me.

Yes, an old adage among pilots. And pretty much true too. The hardest work flying is monitoring an autopilot on a mandatory autopilot landing (stunningly low visibility landings). I have a suspicion full self-driving, whenever that actually happens is going to be the same way.

The 2021 Tesla X isn't autonomous and doesn't offer hands free driving.
well they have it. Soooo I guess you can when you spend $97,000. They told me in great detail about it. I have known them for over 10 years. No offense but I believe them over you.

I suppose it's possible your clients have a different understanding of the phrase "automatic driving" than I do.

I hope they do not think their car is capable of driving by itself. If they do believe that, they are misinformed and putting others' lives in danger.

If they have to supervise the driving and take over when the vehicle is making the wrong decisions, it is not autonomous.

They have Tesla’s “Full Self Driving” which for an unknown reason has led drivers to think it is full self driving.

Unreal. The guy is also speeding, flying by everyone on the road, while filming himself. Perhaps he will provide the next opportunity for the AI to learn.

The hardware is standard on the Premium trim.

The software portion is $600 for three years of the capability, once it first becomes available.

There is a reason every airliner in current service is equipped with an autopilot that will disconnect immediately if the pilot makes a control input.

I'm not sure what the point you're trying to make is? If you'd like we can discuss Air France 447 in depth. At the time of the crash I was flying the A330. I have a bit over 10 years experience flying the A330 internationally. Needless to say I had a very personal stake in understanding both the causes of the crash and how to avoid such an incident myself.
