Garbage Bluetooth on phone calls

Hello again! Another glitch, wondering if anyone else has experienced it.

When making or receiving phone calls over Bluetooth, about 90% of the time the other side is garbled and cutting out. The other end can hear me just fine, but they cut out and garble like a bad connection.

Bluetooth music works just fine, all Bluetooth functions are great... Except phone calls are impossible crapshoots.

Is this another unique joy with my phone and my car combination? (Android Auto continues to drop connections at random.) I haven't been able to extensively test with anyone else's phone yet.

I'm almost sure that behavior is due to Android Auto. I have it too, and it's not consistent — it'll be there during some drives, and not during others.

Strange thing is I get that behavior on raw Bluetooth. I haven't gotten AA stable enough to try (I'm pretty sure that is my phone though). My phone and my 2014 Escape are friends and no problems with phone calls...

I don’t use Android Auto and I experience frequent issues with both incoming and outgoing calls. Either I hear nothing or I can hear the caller very faintly. I posted in another thread about this and a Ford rep replied and asked for my VIN and other info. But they didn’t seem to find what caused the problem. A friend who owns a 2022 GT told me she had the issue for awhile and it resolved after an update.

I've found AA to only be reliable with the phone connected via USB.

I was literally coming on here this morning to post about this. My calls are routing through Android Auto, which is what I was blaming for the garbled audio. The issue is happening even when connected over USB.

I experienced it yesterday for the first time...but was not on android auto, was just bluetooth connected (AA refused to connect, surprise)

Is it JUST phone calls for you folks, or all audio?

That's the part that gets me. It's just phone calls, and just the inbound half. The other side can hear me fine.

Just calls, just inbound, yes! Not consistent. Also, it doesn't have to been the stock phone app, other calling apps like Whatsapp have the same issue.

huh...I didn't make this connection (haha get it?!) but mine was also an inbound call.

This is interesting. I got AA to work and calls are currently crystal clear. I only have problems on Bluetooth. More experimentation needed.

Are you able to try with AA or CarPlay? For science?
