I was finally able to get a dealer to install a new APIM for my MME. I've been stuck on 1.7 forever and still don't have BlueCruise. Does anyone know what to expect in terms of updates? Will I get my car back at a higher version or will I just have to wait until I start getting the OTAs I've missed? I doubt the dealer is going to take the time to bring it fully up-to-date.

Total crapshot, based on how active and helpful your dealer is. Most likely you'll have to just wait to start getting OTAs. But most likely you'll be in the 2.5 or 3.5 ranges to start.

Got it. That is kind of what I was expecting. I'll probably install a lot of the updates myself using FDRS. I've installed a lot of the other module updates myself, but I've never been able to update the APIM. Prior to buying my car used, a dealer locked it out trying to get bluecruise installed.

You may not be able to get the updates done or do them yourself until the 21G01 hold gets lifted

I was unaware there was a hold, but this makes sense. I originally took the car in and told the dealer my BlueCruise just had never worked and they said they couldn't do BlueCruise updates at the moment.

What's the highest software version I can get to then given the hold? Any ETA on when the hold will be over?

Uh oh - I have so much to learn! Owned my MME for 6 weeks so I have no clue about “holds” and APIM’s. Assume you’re talking about software updates but what is an APIM? How can I learn more about the update process? My 2022 MME has the 2.4.1 update but I believe the latest is 2.4.4 - that’s what a fellow owner said at a car show last weekend. Am I dependent on the dealer to send out updates? I never even considered how this all works before buying our first EV! Pretty naive on my part.

To start on your settings go to Updates, turn on auto updates, and then also define a schedule for updates, I do nightly at 1am. You can also connect your car to your home wifi. If that doesnt trigger some updates with 2 weeks, and you are on the older UI (do you have the camera button in the top left of the big screen?) then maybe ask your dealer if your car is stuck. For the majority of us updates just happen over the air, no action needed.

It has been suggested on this forum to set your auto update for 15 minutes into your commute to or from work. (Versus at 1am) This is to allow the low voltage battery to charge and get above the 80% SOC as indicated by the Ford OTA team.

There are different paths you can take as a Mach-E owner:
  • Wait to get updates OTA (over the air) when Ford sends them out. This is the "slow and easy" path
  • Buy equipment and software license and apply all updates to your vehicle the second they become available on the Ford server. This is the "fast and techy" path
  • Wait for OTA but go to your dealer if there are things that are bothering you that have known fixes and have them apply the updates. This is the middle ground.
You will find people on here in each category and many variations there of. Different threads on here can be suggested based on how deep into the details you want to get

Unless some feature or bugfix is missing from your car that you really need or desire, none of this is actually anything the typical driver needs to worry about. And even then, you can just ask your dealer to check on things. My partner doesn't think about it, doesn't care about it, and spends her time with the car just driving instead of geeking out about the technology. The owner's manual tells you how to set the schedule for automated updates and that's about all most people really need to worry about.

I'm a total geek, I have the hardware and have spent the money for temporary licenses to do the updates myself, but I did it once and won't do it again unless and until something about my car bothers me enough.

Heard back from the dealer today that they actually couldn’t get a hold of a new APIM as quickly as they thought. Of course, it’s on back order with no ETA. Anyone had a new APIM recently care to share how long they had to wait?

Mine took from Oct 22 till April 23. There was a rash of them locked up by the dealers in summer of 22. They should be getting them out a lot faster now.

Damn! What a wait. My dealer said the service tech estimated anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. Hoping for the earlier side since I’ve been dealing with this for over a year
