Damn! What a wait. My dealer said the service tech estimated anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. Hoping for the earlier side since I’ve been dealing with this for over a year
The thing is, my dealer locked it up in July 22. Sept 22 we had the display/APIM Sirius problem that they couldn't update. But they had me come back 10 Oct 22, beyond the 20 day APIM lock-out limit. Back in January Ford got my OTA's moving again, after not receiving any since July. Two were 4 placement numbers that made the APIM start working correctly again. But when the new one came in, the dealer wanted to replace it (so they could get paid). During replacement, they could not program the new one. Ford Tech had to come in, and used a non-published code set to fix it. After walking their tech through it step by step with a failure. Not what was available on FDRS.
I suspect it may have to do with Auto theft prevention. Minor inconvenience compared to the alternative.

My 2021 Premium extended range has been in the shop for 6 1/2 weeks waiting for an APIM. I only got one OTA update after getting the car and took the car in 4 times before they agreed to change the APIM. I have been calling weekly to check on the car and they often don’t return my call. Frustrating! I’m wondering if it’s time to start pursuing the lemon law.

Sorry to hear that! I'm in a similar boat. Took me 3 tries and 2 different dealers for them to replace the APIM. I've been waiting 3 months for the APIM to come in. Called today and still waiting. They didn't keep my car at the shop, though. Barring some safety reason, I am not sure why the dealer is keeping your car while you wait.

When mine needed replaced, I kept my car while waiting for the APIM. It took about 2 weeks, then 1 day to replace it. That occurred June 2nd. Dealer mentioned that they are seeing a lot of APIM failures lately which may explain the backlog.

Why do they have to keep the car while waiting for the part?

In June my APIM was replaced because my screen would often freeze on startup (not allowing the backup camera to show up on the screen). It only took 2 days to get it.

Replacing my APIM solved the screen freezing issue. However, ever since then I lost Connected Navigation services.... and the dealer is still trying to get those restored (with help from a Ford Engineer). So good luck.

It is now August 17 and my APIM was ordered June 12. My dealership rarely returns my call when I call to check on it,

Mine was ordered in Oct 22 and was installed in May 23. Install took several days due to programming problems. Ford field tech had to finally do it.

I have the same year/model and my car has been at the dealer since June 19 waiting for the same part as my car had never received OTA updates. I obviously have an open case with ford and have been calling them weekly; each time they have zero updates and are unable to provide any estimates as to when the APIM will arrive, but I am planning on continuing my weekly calls. I hope you get yours soon and the problems are resolved.

Thanks for your input. I’ll look forward to hearing how your situation works out. I wish you good luck getting your APIM! I’m still waiting with zero encouraging feedback from Ford or the dealership.

When I made the original post, the dealer told me that they were finding me an APIM at a nearby dealer and it would be quick. They ended up not being able to get one from another dealer and had to order it. It took from May 1 until August 24 to come in. Finally taking my car next week to get it installed. We'll see what version of sync I end up on.

My dealer ordered an APIM when I was having PaaK problems on my Pixel 7 Pro with Android 13 back in July 2023, but it was backordered with no ETA. In Aug 2023 I found that Android 14 beta solved my PaaK problems. So when my APIM arrived in Oct 2023, I declined to have it installed. But they keep calling me every month to install it and I keep declining. However, I do have little periods from time to time that PaaK still gives me trouble, but it always seems to clear up within a few days.

I am on the fence as to whether I should let them replace the APIM. I do not have problems with receiving software updates.

What does the APIM have to do with Paak?
Should I get my APIM replaced when the car only occasionally has PaaK problems?

The APIM controls the cars security. They would not have been able to order it unless they had a reprogramming problem or trouble code that Ford approved the replacement. Once they try to reprogram it and fail, they have 28 days to complete the reprogram or it locks to prevent any future programming. Security thing. Dealer did it to mine and they had to replace it. But also had to bring in a field engineer to program it. Wish they had done that the first time, but in 2022 they didn't know that much.
