For gas engine cars, do people buy a car because it has a better fuel economy than the other? Is a car better because it has been fuel economy? NO!!

People buy cars because they are what they want to drive, they like the style, they like the features, they like the price, etc! Why shouldn't it be the same with electric cars!
Yes, many people do buy a car based on fuel economy, especially when gas prices are high. Some of the people most concerned about fuel economy are the early adopters for EV... Not everyone considers fuel economy (and some look at it as a negative if it has any decrease in performance), but many do consider that as a top priority when purchasing a new car.

And maybe instead of fuel efficient, I should have said fuel autonomy!

I was thinking the same thing. How much of a factor "fuel economy" (i.e. the cost for fuel) is in purchase decision probably shrinks quite a bit in more expensive cars (like $40k+). Which means pretty much all BEVs other than a couple or really low-enders.

Some buyers are motivated by the "green" aspects, of course (not the fuel cost, but the fuel type). But that's different than the fuel economy aspect.

Seems like when gas prices are high people buy more economical cars, when the prices swing lower, they buy bigger cars (by selling the economical). People think they save money on gas when they are losing it by buying a new car so often.

That trend is certainly true, but I think it's a little deceiving applying the macro trend to individual purchases. What I mean by that is the trend mostly affects purchase decisions that were going to take place that year anyway. In a high gas price year, that "next vehicle purchase" trends more toward smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles. And in a low gas price year, they trend more toward bigger size and power.

While there's some premature ditching of existing vehicles due to gas prices, I think that's a relatively minor effect. It's mostly people that were due for a new car anyway, with the gas price having some modest effect on the choice of which one.

Really good take on it here (from this post):
I really enjoy, and have enjoyed Transport Evolved's take on EVs in general and this video is no different.
I really enjoyed how she said they over stepped on the depreciation news articles and she says she'll do better and then was actually very objective when it came to analyzing the "Range Wars." And her take on those wars was actually a really good point and probably could have been it's own "riot-inducing" video on the debate.
Very good post, very good thread and has made me want to support TransportEvd's even more!

Good post.

I find this thing about the electric cars autonomy so funny! It's like THE THING to consider when saying a car is better than the other!

For gas engine cars, do people buy a car because it has a better fuel economy than the other? Is a car better because it has been fuel economy? NO!!

People buy cars because they are what they want to drive, they like the style, they like the features, they like the price, etc! Why shouldn't it be the same with electric cars!

Like if a car with a similar size battery gets only 100miles while another models gets 300miles, now that's worth saying (or bashing if you wish to), but really comparing Tesla's to Ford's and making all a hype about a few miles difference...come on!

I way prefer the style of the MME of Tesla's styling and how they approached the electric car. So I chose a Mach E over a 3 or Y. Autonomy is important but not the main factor.

Ah and yes Tesla charges twice as fast!!! Wow that's awesome, but what's the impact on battery performance and lifespan?!

Anyhow, let them bash if they so wish, I won't tie my %?$"//" a knot because my SR-RWD "only" got a 230 miles EPA rating!!!!
This is because any car regardless of the miles per gallon, will at least go 350 mi between fills so you don't really consider it. Semi truck only gets 6 mi per gallon but carries in a fuel to go over 500 MI it's just not as important.

Views / Clicks in a catchy title.

Same article: "Those figures are nearly identical to what Ford targeted with the Mach-E, signaling the automaker's improving engineering quality."
The car was tested in Norway and drove from Oslo to Trondheim (470km) still 14% left I’m the battery. Not to bad.
