“Follow that car!”

“Sure, I just need to stop after 2 miles and do a quick 10 min charge because it’s freezing outside so I can only drive for 5 miles. But after that I’m back on them! .. you wouldn’t happen to know where they are going, would you?”

makes lots of sense...no need for gas, I'm guessing a charger back at the taxi garage, comfy ride, cool car will get attention to get fares....then again, I'm not sure the last time I used a real taxi with Uber and Lyft around.

It could work too if in the city. Not like they are driving far nor fast. Lots of sitting still.

I wonder if they could make it a whole shift on a charge though.

That color scheme is great, Ford would do well to release a yellow Mach-E with black wheels. Don’t need another shade of grey.

NYC? Can’t go very far anyway , too much traffic and since so much traffic they might get 350 on a charge

Apparently this has been tried before:

https://www.caranddriver.com/featur...-history-of-the-electric-car-1830-to-present/

“…..by the early 1900s, they had more than 600 electric cabs operating in New York with smaller fleets in Boston, Baltimore, and other eastern cities. In New York, the downtime it took to recharge batteries was addressed by converting an ice arena into a battery-swapping station where a cab could drive in, have its spent batteries replaced with a recharged set, and move on out. Brilliant, but like many a startup, it expanded too quickly, ran into unforeseen conflicts among investors and partners, and the whole taxi venture had collapsed by 1907.”

It's an older data point, but "Taxi Dreams" said that the average number of miles for a NYC taxi driver on a 12 hour shift was 180.

They don’t need to be able to do the “average miles” though. They need capability to do the “maximum miles on a 12 hour shift” with some buffer for traffic and cold weather.
