My Garage Door Opener died and got replaced today with an Overhead Door Destiny 1200 (Genie). After using the two different Ford methods multiple times unsuccessfully, I went to HomeLink.com/Ford and found this hybrid set of instructions for my 2021 Mach-e.:

Step A: First Train the button in the car

1) For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink
Ford Mustang Mach-E HomeLink programming instructions {filename}
buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash, which may take up to 20 seconds. (Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.)
2) Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink surface (usually located on your visor, overhead console, or mirror), keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.
3) Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and hand held transmitter button. DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapid flashing indicates successful training.)

Step B: Then train the garage door opener to the newly trained button:

4) A second person may make the following steps quicker and easier. Please use a ladder or other device. Do not stand on your vehicle to perform the next steps. On the garage door motorhead, press and release the learn code button - the red LED will begin to blink.
5) Get back into your vehicle and press the desired HomeLink button one time.
6) Press the desired HomeLink button a second time.
7) Press the HomeLink button a third time. You should see the garage door open/close. HomeLink programming is complete.

The original Ford instructions are written as an either Step A / or Step B proposition. I had to do both.

I took the easy (3rd) way. When my opener died a few months ago, I made the installer do the work. Also there is a learn button on the doodad that's installed on the wall that I use to open/close the garage door, so no need for ladder. I used it to program key chain opener.

Thanks for this. I've tried to program my HomeLink button to no avail. Followed the instructions in the MME manual but no luck. I'm going to try this and see if it solves the problem.

My Installer was an Overhead Door guy, not a tech guy. Sadly, my wall pad has no Learn button. But my opener's Learn button faces the floor rather than the door. And I had a long enough dowel rod to poke and hold it.

Just followed your instructions and it worked on the first button click! Just want to add that this process should be started in "full accessory mode" by starting the car without pressing the brake.

What does that accomplish?
I didn’t do that when I programmed mine.

Not sure but it's step 1 in the instruction manual.
It must be just to make sure the Homelink has power. When you shut off the car, Homelink loses power after a few minutes, but it seems like just opening the door turns it back on. I guess if you take too long to do the programming it could lose power before it completes.

I think it's for safety, since part of it might involve you leaving your car to push a Learn button. Full accessory mode means the car is on, but it's guaranteed not to move. I noted that the instructions also say to do this parked in your driveway. I tried doing it parked under my opener in the garage, and the push-button that came with the opener would not work in the garage.

When I did mine, the car wasn’t on at all.

Yeah, I agree that's probably why it's in the instructions. So the accessory power doesn't timeout before programming is complete.

For what it is worth, besides the instructions in the manual, there is this video too:
