Does anyone carry with them a 10-30 to 14-50 pigtail in case of having to charge at a campground or other 240v (30 amp outlets) was think i might pick one up on amazon. Thinking the more options the better.

I hope you will be using something other than the Ford EVSE that came with your car. It’s hard-wired to draw 32A which is super-bad on a 30A circuit. ??

perhaps i do not understand or asked the correct question. The portable EVSE has a 14-50 plug and was looking at an adapter from that to 10-30 plug. not sure what amperage it would be?

The charger is rated at 32 amps. It will blow the breaker on a 30amp circuit. You would need to verify that the circuit has a 40amp breaker, or a 50amp breaker, and the appropriate wiring.

The connector that comes with the charger should work at most campgrounds.

You're not following.

A 10-30 outlet is supposed to supply 30amps.
The charger will pull 32.
It will blow the circuit.

Therefore, you need to look for a campground with 14-50 outlets.

Also (and I'm not an expert on this), people have said that the 10-30 circuits are often 120volt, so it may only charge at 1kW per hour.

We took our Mach-E to a campground in April 2022, and used a 14-50 outlet just fine. We did call ahead, and they told us which campsites had 14-50, and reserved one for us.

You will need a different EVSE that can be throttled back to 24A on a campground 30A circuit. The Ford Mobile Charger will not work, regardless of having an adapter. It will blow the circuit or at the very least be super-unsafe. ??

Just for example, I am toying with the idea of getting a Brand T Mobile EVSE and using my T-to-J1772 adapter since they can be throttled back based on the mains connection pigtail used. Yes, they have a 10-30P pigtail, but it’s currently out of stock. ??

The 30A hookups at campgrounds are generally 120V TT-30s and you might as well just plug into the regular outlets with the Ford Mobile Charger at that point. The Mach-E caps 120V charging at 12A regardless of adapters and circuit capacity, in my experience. As others have said, using adapters on 30A circuits for the FMC supplied with the Mach-E is unsafe and will trip breakers.

You could look into purchasing a portable 24A charger with a 14-30 or 10-30 pigtail if you commonly need to plug into dryer outlets (I had one for visiting my parents while I talked them into installing a proper EVSE). You can find adapters to TT-30 to use with a 24A charger, but you will be a couple hundred dollars poorer and no better off with that whole setup if you're just plugging in at campsites. Use the Ford Mobile Charger 240V pigtail for 50A hookups and 120V standard outlet pigtail at 30A hookups.

TT-30s at campgrounds are 120V, not 240. No more useful for charging than a standard 5-15.

Edit - just realized this was covered in post 10. Sorry for being redundant!

I had the same issue when I went to visit my parents. They only have a 10-30 for their dryer. I ended up borrowing their neighbors Tesla charger (he bought the 10-30 adapter) and I used my mini TeslaTap. It worked perfectly. I ended up buying the Tesla charger and the 10-30 adapter. I hardly ever use the mobile charger anyway, so I'm just gonna keep that in the car and use the Tesla Tap. Tesla has like every kind of adapter you need. https://shop.tesla.com/product/gen-2-nema-adapters

Not sure you are going to find a pigtail for this conversion. The current draw is mismatched. Also, a 14-50 NEMA outlet has 1 ground, 1 neutral and 2 hots.

A 10-30 is the old dryer receptacle in the days before ground wires were required. It’s 2 hots and a neutral for 240V.
