After unplugging from my level 2 home charger I was unable to fully close the charge port door. The pin on the door would not go into the latch mechanism...even when I pushed firmly. Was rushing to catch the last ferry of the day so this was not ideal!!

After checking for obstructions, I found that if used the tip of a key (or pen I assume would work) to push in on the mechanism the door pin' goes into, the charge door pin would then go into the mechanism and latch like normal.

I suspect my 'punch the door' opening technique was responsible. Will be gentler going forward.

The charge port door design is stupid and has been criticized since the car was introduced. The mechanism for fuel filler flaps has opened and closed reliably since at least as far back as the 1950s. But no, some stupid intern at Ford wanted to make a name for themselves.

They stole the design from BMW. Typical German over engineering.

Kind of related based on the last comment about the design, but has anyone come back to their MME to find the charge door open when in a parking lot? Like someone was curious about it but didn't close it, or just being stupid. A release from inside like my wife's Escape would be nice to deter would be shenanigans.

It opens by itself sometimes.

The little finger pull sticking out was probably determined to be too much drag or something...

Cool, my first thought was ducktape, but your solution is even better. I'm a big fan of duck tape and gorilla glue, you can fix almost anything with those. ?
