On the other side, PSE&G in NJ gets 40% from nuclear, so my rate is around $.19/kwh. With solar (after the NJ energy credits) I'll be paying $.10 - $.12 /kwh.
35% of electricity generated in AZ is from Palo Verde Nuclear Plant. But nuclear power isn't all that cheap, once you account for all the associated costs. It's a little cheaper than coal and gas, but significantly more expensive than hydro.

I'd narrow that a little further to add "that have an easy place to charge overnight". For city people that live in apartments/condos/etc without a dependable place to charge nighly at cheap residential rates, the equation starts to shift significantly. Doesn't necessarily rule it out, but it wipes out the biggest advantage.
More and more apartment residents can charge at cheap free rates. Not necessary plugged in all night, since they have to share chargers with their neighbors. Also charging at work is growing. According to my utility, charging during the day (8:00 AM - 3:00 PM), produces the least stress on the grid. That's why two years ago they changed their TOU times from 9:00 PM - 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM - 3:00 PM.

Those folks just need to hang tight for a while longer. It's coming, we just can't install these things fast enough. Here in Phoenix the utility companies offer incentives to employers and multi family residences to install EV stations so it's not really an excuse here any longer.

It's fairly common for apartment complexes here to have EVSE stations. Many, if not all are free to use. I have an employee that just leased a Chevy Bolt for something like $225 per month. She can charge for free at her apartment complex and also here at work. It's about a 15 mile drive for her each way. She said she had no idea that it was even possible for her to own an EV. She didn't even know the Bolt existed and was so affordable and she believed the charging stations at her apartments were only for the Tesla owners.

For many....it's really about EV awareness, which is in short supply of course. And well, let's be honest.....the choices have been meager to say the least. I suspect that once the Mach E hits the streets then people are going to be MUCH more receptive to an EV lifestyle for themselves.

True, but I'm guessing that's only like few% of all apartments and workplaces. So far anyway.

Agree with your general direction on where it's going. Not so sure about the degree of it in place yet though. Probably varies greatly by city & state.

I would argue that BEVs are a good fit for MOST urban residents. It's just that MOST don't realize it yet.

I would expect BEVs to be a large inconvenience for many if not all rural residents.
I agree. Stopping every 100 miles?? Not likely if you have 270 miles of range. Even In my soon to be ex ICE car my max limit in a 2017 fustian AWD Sport is 350.Sure I may not go the entire 270 but even if I came close and had to stop for 30 minutes I would likely do that anyway. Grab a snack, wait in line, restrooms and take a breather ortalk with my family that has been quiet so far along the drive.

Plug some lengthy routes into ABRP for the AWD ER and I bet you'll find legs around 100 miles (after the first one where you leave from home at 100%).

At interstate speeds, that 270 will likely lose around 10%. More in less-than-perfect weather. Subsequent drive legs usually happen between 10-80% charge. That leaves around 160.

But then fit that into charger spacing and you often have to stop well short of 160 miles. Might be 90, 100, 120, 140... but rarely right at the limit.

We can go 450 miles in the RV ;)

Usually have to stop long before that as the driver can't go use the restroom like the rest of the passengers

Of course a fuel stop in it sometimes feels like charging up an EV filling the 55 gallon tank.

Seems like the infrastructure starts at the coasts and are working their way in towards the Mississippi River. Slow process though....

Over 40¢ per kWh where I live. The lowest in our state is a bit under 30¢ per kWh. So yes, yes they are.
Ok, but right around July, I'd gladly swap my electricity prices for your climate. Actually, I'd do that any month. :)

Hard to tell, since many people seem to think that generating electricity from nuclear is free. And it sorta is, but then there all those other costs, that most people don't think about.

Community services can help solve this. In a Baltimore community near Federal Hill, they have installed a free 50kW DCFC at the local library to help solve this problem. The neighborhoods have almost all on-street parking.

Full-time DCFC charging isn't really recommended for the battery though. Not that some won't do it. "Free" is very powerful (even though it just means other people are paying for it). Still though, it's not really a great solution. I wouldn't buy a BEV without dependable, cheap L2 charging.
