Just got advertised this, it's $900 for what seems to be a lifetime EV battery warranty. However I have literally never heard of the company before, it's not affiliated with any major insurer or warranty provider as far as I can see, there's minimal info on the company.... all their links seem to point to something called "Intuitive Contracts"

The warranty doesn't seem to give you any policy document that I can find aside from a general FAQ that doesn't seem tailored to an EV battery warranty, so can't even really tell what it covers / exceptions / deductibles.

I'll be honest I started writing the post intending to ask if anyone has used them or alternative providers, but having typed it out I've just concluded it's a scam lol

Found this is the FAQ

"How much will you reimburse for a new battery?
Up to $250 for the battery plus installation."

Looks like they only cover the 12v battery on vehicles.

Interesting. I put in a VIN for an MME and it showed the $899 premium for the EV battery (as expected). I then put in the VIN for an ICE car and the premium showed was $189 for the 12V battery. I have no plans to trust this company and shell out $899 for their "product" but given that there is a substantial price difference between an EV premium and an ICE premium, it makes me wonder if the $250 coverage FAQ applies only to ICE cars. But of course it seems you don't get to see the contract until you pay, and you don't learn what the cancelation terms are until you get the contract, so.........

I just messaged the company (using a burner email address to prevent future SPAM), "The FAQs on your site say the maximum coverage for a battery is $250 plus installation. Of course an EV battery can be upwards of $30,000, so coverage limits are critical in choosing insurance. Can you send me a sample contract for an EV? Also, who underwrites your coverage?"

I'll report back what I learn...

It's exceedingly rare that an entire battery pack needs replacement. When people quote the $30k price to replace a pack, it's generally FUD because degradation is rarely uniform across an entire pack, and just replacing bad or damaged cells can refresh even a 10 year old pack. Not back to 100%, but to the 95% range. Replacing cells is A LOT less expensive, but still well over $900.

I could see a $900 warranty that covers you until 10 years or something maybe paying off for a company, but Lifetime is an interesting claim. Although "Lifetime" in warranties generally refers to the expected life of the product, not the person. So maybe the expected battery life is mentioned as being 10 years somewhere, and then this would seem reasonable.

their entire FAQ is written for ICE but their home page specifically is written for EV batteries (although indeed no clarification of which battery). does not instill confidence when they can't even write the correct sales material that 8 years from now i'll be able to get $30k out of them :p

Indeed. That's why I asked who is underwriting them. If it's a major insurance company (likely the case), then the chances of getting a payout when needed are much higher than would be the case if they're doing the underwriting themselves...

That's not even a decent 12V battery these days

Their contact address is actually for “Gateway Pack and Ship”, so just a mailbox provider. Not confidence-inspiring.
