How do I know if the pre-collision assist actually does work? Two months ago, a giant goose landed in front of my Mustang Mach-E 2023 while I was driving near a golf course with a lake. I had no time to react and hit the bird. The car did not stop or slow down either. I took the car to the shop and after 2 month waiting, they finally got the parts and replaced the front shutter and re-calibrated the car. I took the car and on the way home noticed that audio went silent for a split second and came back. This repeated again multiple times. To test the pre-collision assist, I drove towards an empty cardboard box at 5 MPH and the automatic breaking did not work. It did work on reverse gear, however. Took the car back and they calibrated and then on third try they reset it to factory settings. I still have same issue. Today, I went to the dealer again and they said they would need to replace the IPMA module.
Question: are there any other ways to test the system? Once I get the car back, how do I make sure that it works as it supposed to? Should I have them test it with box again?

Yeah, if you think it is going to detect a box you haven't read the manual.

Sadly, the system only detects humans (I don’t think it even detects cyclists). It’s been clarified that it doesn’t detect large mammals (like deer)

The same way you know your airbags work. Trust.

It actually does detect a box on reverse mode.
Totally different system. The reverse braking is using the ultrasonic parking sensors.

Maybe we should test the evasive steering assist. Speed up to 60mph, then swerve to the left just before hitting the tree, then swerve back, and stop, if we can.

Sorry, I've searched a fair bit and can't find it either. The net was basically that the pre-collision assist is tuned for cars and humans. Hopefully it will also react to other large mammals such as deer, elk, moose, hippos, lions, ....... and the most important large mammal, my cat Layla.

My collision alert goes off if I am acceleration toward a car that is making a right hand turn in front of me even though I know there is no danger of a collision. It even goes off if I am pulling into the garage too fast . The key might be the act of accelerating while approaching an object and foot not on the brake.

This is the internet ... we really should have a topic dedicated to cats. We could make it cats in MachE's for relevance. Please, no collision testing involving cats though!

What a beauty! Bengal or Savannah? Whatever he or she is, that definitely qualifies as a large mammal!

Thanks. He's an F5 Bengal and quite a bit bigger than a normal cat.
