Okay so I have been reading a lot about this to see what is best to do when temperatures are now in my area regularly over 105°. I know that the Mach-E won't active cool unless running or plugged in, and it is getting very hot here north of Dallas. I currently have been parking in the shade at work, with a windshield sunshade and we have very high-quality ceramic tint. But I am in a concrete jungle depending on buildings for shade in the afternoon. I also have departure setting for when I leave work on but not set to cool the interior so that all of that effort can go to batter pre-conditioning. So I have a question for the group as I have options, my question is what is better:
  • Continue as I have been and temperatures up to 110º is not to bad as the car is never over 80% Charged at work, and the efforts I have done is okay to limit the degradation of the battery.
  • The other option is there are very affordable Charge Point Level 2 chargers 2 blocks from my office that are new, and not used often. But they are in the sun and if I park there after I come back from lunch that means that yes the car is on shore power to cool the battery as needed but I am taking up 1 of 4 public chargers within a 5 mile radius blocking it from everyone else.

What is best to do and what is practical to do are not exactly the same.

I assume it hits 100 plus in the afternoon, but its cooler in the AM when you arrive at work.

If I could, I'd park in the shade, if no shade is available, I'd not worry about it.

Do you mean you would leave your car plugged into a public charging station just for cooling, and not actively charging the battery? You definitely should not do that.

Don't overthink it. Your car will be fine.

Correct I mean plug up with the charge settings at 80% so it does not charge past that and then just keeps the battery cool.

Please do not do that.
Yeah that was my thought as well, I mean I don't want any battery degradation. But I don't want to be "THAT GUY" LOL that blocks a charger that someone could use... LOL Just needed a public thought expirament, as I was feeling "Am I overthinking this??? Should I not be worried????"

One way to avoid being THAT GUY is to leave a note on your car of some sort saying to message you or call you if they need to charge. I know some here are of the opinion that no one should "block" a charge ever, but I think a possible middle ground might work. I know the pain of public charging, believe me - it's the only way I charge, but I would be grateful if someone had a note on their car.

Or just not block the charger if you're not charging.

Yes, you are overthinking this. You should simply park the car, then remote start to go home so your cabin is cooled.

Parking at a level 2 charger and not charging for hours doesn't make you "that guy". "That guy" sits idle for 30 minutes. You would be inviting vandalism, for being an a-$ole. Much more than "that guy".

Most level 2 chargers will end the session and you would not be able to restart remotely anyway. Hopefully they would charge a person like that huge idle fees, or the owner of the property towing the car.

Please don't do this.

leaving a note on your car while you are blocking a charger but not charging.... makes you that guy... sorry.
