Link to the story: A Tesla owner says he got a $14,000 repair bill one day after buying a Model Y. A new report suggests it's part of a much bigger problem. (msn.com) Found in this article:

  • Reuters found that Tesla has faced thousands of complaints over suspension and steering issues.
  • But, Jain (owner) told the publication he later learned he was expected to pay the $14,000 repair bill after Tesla sent him a letter indicating the issue was the result of "prior" damage.
Is there some kind of investigation ongoing about this?

Be careful, because Ford has had the most recall 2 years in a row.
Ford does have a quality issue. How do their recalls compare to the amount of vehicles built? Defects or recalls per 1,000 vehicles or something like that.

Sometimes having a dealer to take your side pays off. Maybe they hit something but knowing Tesla they would pull out the accelerometer log and prove it.

I owned a Tesla M3 and was happy when I traded up to the Mach-E.

Doesnt Tesla come with a bumper to bumper warranty for time and distance?

Right, but (at the risk of looking like I'm defending Tesla) they shouldn't have to fix the car for free *if* the new owner did something stupid like run over a curb with it.

Having had 8 Fords in the family over the last 24 years I have had many recalls. Nearly all were for minor items. All were done while getting normal maintenance done. I don’t have the actual day but most if not all were the result of parts Ford purchased. None that I know of were were due to bad assembly.

I bought the Mach E because I preferred a car company learning to incorporate technology over a technology company learning how to build a car.
And the look of a car by a firm with a motoring heritage, the Mustang, produces a car which is a thing of beauty instead of a new entrant into the car market producing a car which looks like…………well, er, nothing except a tasteless looking box which will date very quickly……..only my opinion before a trollster jumps onto his keyboard?

So you're saying they alerted customers to issues and didn't blame customers for parts they knew were defective? Yeah, recalls are good (for the most part). That's not what the story is about though.

They have access to your crash data, and in particular your pre-crash data from either SRS deployment or non-trivial non-deployment events which trigger a recording that does not even need to be a crash, as such.

5 seconds of pre-crash data is VERY interesting, and useful when determining fault and causation, the silver bullet, even!

I read this story last night and it seems to be missing something. Just doesn't pass the bullshit test in my opinion. I am sure the full story will come out soon enough, but it won't make headlines like this because, well....its not exciting.

Seems like maybe it's an insurance claim, not a manufacturers defect.

I read the article. sounds like this dude hit a curb or something. Tesla said no, but insurance said yes. Insurance doesn’t pay mechanical breakdown. He paid a collision deductible because he collided with something.
