Not only that, but I took the vehicle in for service last November to fix this very issue and all they did was software updates and the issue came right back. I mentioned that a cable may need to be replaced when I took it in. At that time my vehicle was under 36K. How should I handle this?

Wow! They should have it documented that you brought it in for this issue under warranty. I would call the ford bev hotline and have them try to handle it. I had mine replaced under warranty. The Dealership told me that they cant replace the cable because I installed a dash cam and that probably pinched the wires. I talked to someone at Ford and my dealership called me back and said they have the part in stock and will replace it for me.

Pretty sure that Ford Dealers are supposed to offer some kind of “lifetime guarantee” on service work they perform.

Hi there! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your concerns on my end.

My dealer also brought up my dash cam when I took my MME in for this issue. They asked when I installed it and speculated it could have cause the damage. When I pointed out the dash cam had been installed two years without issue, they dropped it and performed the work for free.

If dealer does not want to help your argument. You have to contact ford directly and see if they will accept the argument that the problem was the same one from the previous fix before warranty expired. If Ford keeps denying it. There is nothing you can do.

This is just a taste of what it will be going down the road. No idea why everyone is concerned about battery. It is always the other small stuff that bankrupts you and make you want to dump the car. $1600 to replace a camera cable. Jeez.

If the argument was just that something faulted out of the blue outside the warranty period would not be entirely fatal to your claim, unless you have been misled by those encouraging on these forums people to ignore the maker’s servicing requirement and were either doing the servicing themselves or not at all.

If serviced on time at a dealer often, in my experience, means they either cover stuff like this so close to expiry of warranty or contribute to its cost as a goodwill gesture.

If you’ve been misled into not taking car to a dealer for servicing as I’ve seen people here recommending, you have shot your goodwill.

I would do the same and I expect so would you if you were Ford or any Manufacturer.

If a line in the sand’s already been drawn, however, and a fault with the car in that same area is already reported inside warranty period and attempts already made to put right must mean Ford can’t exclude the warranty claim.

In that case argue!

I have talked to Ford, they talked to the dealer, and they still do not want to treat it as a warranty issue. The dealer claims they replaced the IPMA module last time, in addition to software updates. Clearly that did not correct the issue as it wasn't a week after I picked up the vehicle that we were receiving the same 'Pre-collision assist not available' message along with a new 'Front camera malfunction' (or something to that extent). To me this is the same issue that was started while the vehicle was under warranty, which was not fixed, so should be covered. The reason I didn't get the vehicle right back to them as Christmas, my son's wedding, my daughter's surgery, and work stuff was happening so my wife wanted to wait until January to give up her vehicle for another week or so for repair.

Fixing a MME can be quite expensive. I hope that you get the cable replaced under warranty. Let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Let's say if you have to pay out of pocket, would it be possible to use $1,600 to pay for a premium care plan? The warranty covers repairs from the car purchase date, the plan may still cover the cable.

If you’ve escalated the issue to Ford corporate, and they also say it’s not covered, you’re probably going to request arbitration. You should look into a lawyer.

You are likely out of luck. I am sorry.

But other threads are mentioning that people have been able to fix this issue without having to replace any parts by fiddling with the wire. I’m over simplifying this.

I couldn’t find anything specific, but I thought Ford had a “fix it right the first time” type guarantee in service?

What does a dash cam have to do with this issue?
