The title is a bit clickbaity, this essentially makes it so dealers can use inventory for loaners and get paid for it, which is a good thing, hopefully getting an EV loaner will no longer be an issue.

I saw the article but did not read the details. My dealer rarely has loaners, ICE or otherwise. It definitely (currently) has MMEs on the lot. Might be too little, too late as I'm not sure I'll be going back to them for my next service appointment. Folks will have to keep us posted.

I didn't really know a lot about the financials involved in using inventory as loaners, I guess that was the big sticking point for dealers.

I am glad to see this, as long as they make sure to educate non-EV drivers who get one as a loaner on the basics before they drive off. It will also help justify sizeable markdowns on 2023 models, while still being a "new" car when it eventually is sold.

Wow, I guess that's why my dealer suddenly now have loaners available. I received a 23 MME as a loner when I brought mine in for the HVBJB recall work. They never used to have loaners. They now have a dozen new MME sitting unsold on the lot. A dealer 2 hours north has had over 300 MME sitting on their lot since late last summer.

Some times something you read just doesn’t pass the smell test and today this was my smell test failure.

Seems like a big dealership to have over 300 Mach-E in stock, perhaps you can share its name? A search for the biggest Ford dealership returns a hit for Galpin Motors and they only have less than a quarter of your dealership, 125 out of 1022 new Fords. But that press release was from 2014 so a further look turned up a more recent article that claims Planet Ford in Spring TX is the biggest in 2023 and they have 1803 Fords? in stock but only 36 Mach-Es.?

I was amazed that any one dealer would have 125 Mach-Es on the lot, to have over 300 is mind blowing for me. Ford model-e must be really proud of Galpin Motors.

In Washington State loaners can be sold as new with deeply discounted pricing as long as it’s not registered to another owner. I hope that made a little sense

On the 1st page of the listing, 10 of the 18 cars have stock pictures saying "In Transit - Not in Stock" despite the listing saying "IN STOCK."

I would say their definition of "in stock" is a bit looser than you'd think.

When I called them last summer and asked about it, they said all those are stored in temporary storage lots and they didn't bother getting unique photos and that they are indeed in stock and on one of their lots. They also said if I wanted to see one of those in person, to give them 24 hours notice so they can have it moved from the storage lot to the dealership.

Wow, that is an insane number, I thought 125 was insane (and dead wrong so I stand corrected).

If you clear the search filter they only have a total of 548 new Fords so more than half their inventory are Mach-Es. I guess their banner on the top of the web site says it all, maybe the Silicon Valley drivers can whittle that down in a few months since I doubt they need that many rentals.

I don’t think they do.

Then again, I’ve never heard of the DDR program either. Not sure how it works.
