I got my 2022 Mach-E Select in May of 2022. I just got the warranty it came with. I believe it’s 3yr/36k bumper to bumper and 5yr/60k powertrain. I am now at 28k miles and I wonder if it’s worth seeing if I should extend my warranty to the bumper to bumper 5yr/60k? I believe in California the battery is already covered for 8yr/100k miles but I’m wondering if any other major repairs could occur in the future that won’t be covered with the warranty I have now? Any thoughts? Thanks.

I extended my warranty to 100k miles for about $1100, which is less than if I have just about anything fixed. I think I priced out the center display, and it was about double that to replace. It's like any insurance, it only pays off if something goes wrong.

Was this warranty through Ford or an aftermarket company? Did you do it when you bought the car new or after you drove it for a while?

Two most common mechanical issues for the 2021s - not sure if they apply to 2022s - are bad half-shafts and the front camera coaxial assembly.

The half-shafts are easy to test. Just find a parking lot, and do tight slow circles to each direction. If you don’t hear a clicking noise, you’re probably fine after that many miles.

I don’t know how to test the coaxial issue. Might check to see what warranty work was already performed on the car. That one can be quite costly out of warranty. Very common, but not sure for the 2022s.

Aside from those issues, mine is mechanically perfect over 40k miles.

This is a Ford warranty through a dealership online (Flood Ford). I actually bought it just before I hit 36k miles.

In all my 25+ years of being able to afford to make the decision to spend more on an extended warranty, I've never regretted not buying an extended warranty. With big (>$1000) purchases, we put the money that would have bought an extended warranty into an investment account. We have never needed to pull money out of that account to cover an unexpected repair or replacement.

I have this camera issue on my 2021, it's in the shop now for the fifth time to fix it. I'm also at 34k miles and scared it will fall again outside the warranty.

is this only on the 360 camera models? I have the Select model. What is the issue exactly?

Fifth time! That's not good. Are they following the TSB that Mach-Lee posted? IIRC, the TSB was updated along the way so make sure dealer is following the latest version.

I'm also experiencing the issue. I popped and re-seated the cable myself but it came back a couple of weeks later. Currently waiting (patiently) for Ford mobile service to come take a look at it, hopefully in February.

Several vehicles over the years and I have never bought an extended warranty. For that matter I have never bought an extension warranty for any thing.

All the financial advisors say they are a waste of money. Take that money and put it into your investment account.

That said I had an expense last year on my 2016 Ram that required replacement of the DEF pump and controll module. $4k the absolute most I have ever forked out for a repair. If I had a warranty extension it wouldn’t have covered the repair because while it only has 52k on the clock, it aged out.

Think about this if I had bought a warranty extension for all my vehicles over the las 25 years that would have been $14k-$16k over the years. I have had one major expense and banked $10k-$12k.

Is not 360, you'll get errors about front collision assist off and in my case blue cruise cuts out randomly.

I've moved so a new dealer is looking at it. They are indeed following the latest TSB. The camera wires are on backorder. They've had it for a week, I think they said they were trying an emergency order to get it in faster.

My warranty ends in May. I asked them what happens if they tell me it's fixed again when it's not but I'm outside warranty now. The repair has its own new warranty (can't remember if it's a year or less).
