Mach-E Owners in Ontario: Willing to work with EVinsulate for a Mach-E kit?

Is there anyone with a Mach-E that has the glass panoroof North of Toronto in the Angus area or general Southern Ontario area that would be willing to work with Paul from EV Insulate to create and test an EV Glass double pane panoroof kit for the Mach-E?

There has been interest in having him create a kit but he needs someone willing to let him take measurements and then test a working model.

He did say anywhere in southern Ontario would work for him. Let me see if your location is close enough, it may be, you never know. I'll keep you posted once I hear back.

Hi Paul, I would also like to ask your advice on battery insulation. The Mach-E has zero insulation between the battery cell cold plates and the bottom of the pack, so the bottom of the pack acts like a giant heat sink. The battery temps go down very quickly in cold temps. I see your posts on the Tesla forum about insulation the battery pack, I hope something similar would work on the Mach-E. I see variations with reflective bubble insulation, Coroplast sheets, and rigid foam panels.

Unfortunately the bottom of the Mach-E pack is not flat, there are strengthening ridges and rivets sticking out everywhere (picture below). I'm just curious if you have any advice on how to attach something to this irregular surface, and what material to use. I'm worried about it getting ripped off driving over snow, and getting salt water stuck between the foam and bottom of the pack causing battery tray corrosion (it's made out of aluminum). Maybe add drain holes? We'd appreciate any ideas.

I also wanted to share I'm the guy that tested reflective bubble insulation in the roof glass, and it made a HUGE difference in heat and getting rid of cold drafts when it's -25ºC. Hey Mach-Lee, I'm very curious what Paul's thoughts are on this as well.

I myself have input on this though. My approach would be to use a continuous piece of rigid foam cut to size and shape. Then a strategically placed self adhesive small rubber D seal applied to the foam insulation on the battery facing side to mate with the inner side of the embossed perimeter stamp of the battery plate. This would not adhere to the battery, only make contact and seal with it. This assembly would be held on by extended strike rails (to maintain safety requirements) which would have cross members to hold the insulation board firmly in place. There are 10 existing slotted mount points where you can easily use a carriage bolt to secure everything. 2 of the slotted mount points are at the very front of the battery at the point where it narrows out. here you would have a cross bar only and it would firmly hold the nose of the insulation in place. The entire bottom surface of the insulation board would be covered in a Black 3m comply adhesive vinyl that is self extinguishing. This serves a few purposes, additional heat and fire barrier, additional protection from road salt and chemicals, and as a structural integrity item should the foam ever be compromised or damaged.

what are your thoughts on that approach? Do you see any flaws?

My first efforts at battery insulation after buying my Model 3 in 2018 were using bubble wrap, it didn't take long to see that it was much too fragile. Since then I have only used the polyethylene foam for it's durability. As was mentioned already, keeping water out is a priority and those ridges would make that a challenge. I have only worked with the polyethylene and flatter battery bottom of the Teslas so I don't have much too offer unfortunately.

I took a screen grab from a video of the bottom, I can see how attaching something down there would be a challenge.

Glass roofs are great but they are definitely an energy sink on EVs. Here are the pics I took of Daves car that I posted on the other threat. It's a good way to retain the original look.

Hi all,
Paul did a very nice install on my Mach E.
I have only been out on the hi-way once since the install. It was a cold morning and the cabin did feel warmer with the EV insulate glass. I will update more after more use.
