Partly correct.They banned USB drives because people are morons and will pick up a USB drive they found on the street and plug it in to their work computer to see what was on it. Often times these drives had ransomware or other types of malware and would be used for corporate espionage or other types of ways to get money.
Banning people from being able to plug in random devices they found off the street or brought in from elsewhere is pretty standard corporate cybersecurity and has nothing to do with where the devices were manufactured.
