Last week the vehicle was brought into the dealership for some voluntary recall work. One was a new charging pad. Maybe the rubber pad needed replacement for whatever. I have a 2023 Mach E Premium and the IPhone 15 ProMax. What I have been noticing is gets extremely hot and the phone sends a warning it’s too hot to charge. Only this charger affects this phone this way. I charge at home or even on a wireless pad at home no issues. Only in the car.
Any suggestions?

I hate to do anything 3rd party as to not void my warranty. I hate cords but I may have to result in that. Thank you

'21 J2 and same phone. Both the original Ford charging pad and new one rarely charged the phone but it never got hot at all. Maybe your case has something to do with it if you even have a case on it? I ditched the Ford charging pad for the TWRAPS and could not be happier.

That’s odd. That was happening a few years ago and the addressed it with a TSB. Mine was overheating until the TSB was done.

Another vote for TWRAPS. It literally can’t void your warrantee. Consumer protection laws exist that require warrantees to remain in place even with the addition of (minor, reasonable) 3rd party mods - and this mod isn’t permanent. If you were to remove it and put the rubber mat back in its place, nobody would ever even know it had been there.

The TWRAPS charger replaces the rubber mat and has two wireless charging pucks built in. Not only does it charge your phone much better (without cooking it) and hold the phone in place so it doesn’t slide around, it will also do these things to two phones at once, in case you have a passenger who would also like to charge.

I’m not affiliated with TWRAPS in any way - just a happy customer.

Great thank you. Is this a known issue with Ford? Why was the original pad replaced?

VERY known for Mach-E. Search the forum for “phone charger” and you’ll get dozens of hits. The car’s built-in charger is trash. I haven’t seen the redesigned rubber pad, but someone said it’s slightly thinner, allowing the the phone to sit closer to the charger and reducing heat generated. Just like the software update done earlier, it may have helped some people. But if you’ve got the new pad and your phone is still overheating, get the TWRAPS charger. It’s so much better, it’s like night and day.

Phone case cannot have any metal in it, like a ring or a stand.

you mention that other wireless chargers don’t have the heat problem. I will point out that wireless charging at home isn’t using Apple CarPlay (very intensive on the WiFi radio, the Bluetooth radio, the GPS radio and perhaps keeping the screen on while trying to force more power to the battery) which causes a ton of heat.
As a Pokémon Go player, our phones used to overheat because of screen brightness, high CPU load, and GPS use while trying to keep the phone charged with a power bank. It’s all about how intense the usage is, and wireless CarPlay is pretty intense usage.
