Good deal.
I was hoping I could get a $12000 dealer discount and do lease with the $7500 RCL bonus cash currently available. Turns out the $12,000 discounts are not actually before incentives. The dealer is giving a $4500 discount and a $7500 rebate. It is a rebate that otherwise has been available as a lease rebate since the first of the month.

A salesguy at Sheehy Ford tells me all of the Mach E's I find with over $10,000 dealer discounts include the $7500 rebate.

A caredge search now shows 21,109 MY 23 Mach e's which is about the same as I said 2 weeks ago. It actually went up slightly for a few days (not sure why). And still about a third of those are the older higher priced MSRP job 1's. Maybe Ford is still holding back MY 23's that haven't shipped.

Curiously I have heard Ford reporting the number around 17,000. I wonder if that is the number they have to sell and are on dealer lots with Ford's floor plan. The dealers not on Ford's floor plan may be in a more precarious situation and have the other 4000 (which Ford is counting as sold). Not really sure how that works so just speculation.

I believe the caredge search showing 21,000 is close. I have now clicked the link now on hundreds of caredge links to dealer websites and almost always the car is there.

Caredge search shows 23,200 MY 23 and 24's combined.
Look what it is now, a 362 market day supply, that is insane!

Dang, that's best I have seen on a dealer website. Thank you for sharing. It's a Job 2 build with September build date. Leasehackr calculator shows you can lease it for 12k/36months for $420 before tax with Ford's RCL $7500 lease incentive and just over $1100 DAS. Leasehackr gives it a 12.6 score which is really good. The fine print does say the charge $2000 for a vip advantage package on all new cars. Hard to know if they would remove. I am looking for an AWD premium with extended battery.
Any dealer that charges this nonsense and wont remove it are scum bags. Its a markup disguise as some BS package that has zero value. Walk out if they wont remove it and never go back.

Can we safely declare MME as a completely irreversible and utter failure at this point, regardless of how good the car is? Because then I can at least sleep better once there’s closure lol.

Tesla, you won!

Not quite yet, we need to see if Ford digs out of this hole or not, I for one am fascinated by this fiasco.

If gas prices were still at 2022 levels, we'd all be signing a different tune.

I personally think it’s over. And while I’m also aware that this car is mine to keep until it falls to pieces, I am also just as fascinated by these swings pre during and post pandemic.

May I ask you to elaborate? While surges in gas prices absolutely drive (some) people to EVs, I cannot imagine that is the number 1 reason?

Those are Jeep/Stellantis numbers. Stellantis had to offer large incentives ($10-12K) to move Gladiators and Grand Cherokees.

It's a pricing issue. A Model Y at sub $40K after tax credits is a great deal. My Elon-hating friend and his wife are buying a Y even though they want an Ioniq 5 (I lent them mine for a week). They can't justify the $10K+ extra for the Ioniq 5. It's why the Bolt and Kia Rio are the fastest selling cars... along with the Sienna. Those are probably the best value cars around. The Grand Highlander is fancy 3-row SUV like the Sienna but it's $10-15K more and has less cargo space and much worse mpg.

MME simply isn't competitive at the current price point. It's becoming bz4x-like.

But aren’t CEOs and marketing executives paid enough to do exactly this research ahead of launching a product that is competing with an incumbent? The phrase ā€œresting on our laurelsā€ comes to mind…

My Dealer up here in Canada has 45 MMEs on their lot. They are advertising $11k CAD off MSRP. Dig a little deeper and they are baking a $5k Fed. rebate, and a $4k Provincial rebate, that lower income purchasers can qualify for. The Dealer rebate is only $2k. This advertised price is also misleading because the $9k rebate is not applied off the MSRP, but after the 12-15% sales tax is applied. When are the 2024s rolling in!?

Gas prices drove some consumer demand in 2022, which drove the carmakers to announce investments and timetables to completely revamp their line. ICE become less attractive when gas prices are high. People were receptive to changing their thinking. And that fuels more investment and research into improving things like batteries, etc.

Gas prices were not the only thing (tax credits definitely were a big factor for many) but the conversation about gas prices in 2022 was driving big-picture thinking about the need to transition off of oil. We would still be having that conversation if gas prices remained high.

Instead, lower gas prices have people reverting to immediate gratification, which will only change when we get the next world crisis that sends gas prices through the roof. And, we never know, that could happen tomorrow with the number of hot spots in the world right now.

Tesla has lowered their prices to the point where a lot of automakers just have to suck it up and lower their prices, even if it means more (but temporary) financial losses while they figure out how to be able to build one that's profitable.

My MME is definitely the most "luxury" car I've ever owned and it definitely didn't need to have so many bells and whistles for me to buy it. I'm curious to see what their "skunkworks" project comes up with, even if I don't see another Ford in my future.

Good post. Thank you. I however cannot imagine people flipping back and forth too many times between ICE and EV as soon as gas gains or loses a dollar or two a gallon. That’s a lot of financial loss for selling any vehicle before 4-5 years. Especially in the post pandemic era where prices are just showing trends we haven’t seen before. I am also noticing that electricity bills in many states have doubled. And super / fast charging isn’t exactly ā€œcheapā€ either.

With all that, I do agree with what you wrote toward the end. My ā€˜21 Job 2 MME GTPE is the most luxurious ā€œEVā€ (not car) I’ve owned. Only time will tell how it holds up (only 11k miles so far) but given we don’t ever fast charge and only charge 80% and keep our EVs for city commutes, I am hoping that I get many years of service from it unless of course bad luck strikes.

I just did not see a reason to buy a Tesla if supercharger doesn’t matter to me, the 5 second boost cap doesn’t matter to me. My other posts do boast about many safety features present in MME that are simply absent in Teslas, so there’s that.

The only issue is service centers. And yes. It’s a big issue at times. And that’s a fair reason to skip Ford altogether in the future. I am with you there. Probably my last Ford EV.

As someone who bought the GTPE at 2021 prices...ouch :)

Edit: And now it also qualifies for the Federal/Provincial rebates as well
