If you have a Mach E and feel screwed by the price slash, call Ford, or don't. LOL

We are approaching our 1 year anniversary with our Mach E GTPE. Watching the price drops is making me sick. I totally understand that generally vehicles are poor investments. However, I certainly didn't expect the drastic depreciation on a Ford. Maserati, or the like, absolutely, but not Ford. I can buy a new GTPE for around 18K less than we paid for ours. And if I wanted to trade it in, with 5500 miles on it, I would probably take a 50% hit. I called Ford to see if they were doing anytihing for those of us who purchased at the higher price. While they do not have any plans of doing anything, the agent did tell me they were taking notes for the powers that be. He also said he was seeing several calls for the same reason. Maybe if enough of us call and complain something will happen. In the past year and a half we have spent around 300K on Ford vehicles. I had never owned a Ford until then. Not sure after this if I'll buy another one. I do understand prices tend to come down over time, especially on products with lots of tech, but this seems ridicules. If you want to call Ford, here is the number. (800) 392-3673

I am going to be honest, it is hard for me to understand the anger. Reasonably, this can and has happened with so many cars and manufacturers over the years. It was one year ago. Ford nor anyone can predict the market for the car (or in this case BEV segment) you purchased into.

The materials that go into this technology can change, sentiment can improve or waiver. Anyone buying the car should know the minute they buy a car, it is a sunk cost. Buy it with the expectation you will enjoy it, not that it will miraculously hold ANY value.

The bright side is you can get a 2023 cheaper (which also help make up for part of your loss). Dealers do this all the time to move inventory.

I know it sucks in some way when hindsight is 20/20, but come on, it was a year ago.

sorry - Tesla dropped prices ~20%. all EV makers have had to respond. Our resale values are not just influenced by what a new exact model costs, its impacted by what the alternatives cost too.

We have a 2023 so not sure what your point on buying a 2023 is? I guess you and I see things differently. If I wanted depreciation like that, I would have bought a luxury vehicle. I doubt anyone buys an F-150 or any Ford for that matter and is good with the thought that in 1 year it will be worth 1/2 of its new price with just a few thousand miles on it. But each to their own. I am unaware of any other Ford that tanked like this, if there is one, please enlighten me.

For the record, I'm not mad at Ford. I just called to ask if they were doing anything for people who bought at the higher price and thought I'd share what I learned.
What if the price had gone up after you bought? Would you be willing to send a check to Ford for the difference?

Owner - "Hello, I'm calling because you cut the price on the car I bought a year ago (or 6 months ago, or 3 months ago, or last month), and I'd like to know what you're going to do about it".

Rep, named Jim, could be Farley? - "Well, since my bonus is heavily tied to EV success, and we're getting hosed, would you pay me back some of my lost income"?

Owner - "Bye".

I bought my 2022 (owned a 2021) for around $55,500 before tax. $79,750 for the Lightning. Both have decreased in value, total of well over $10,000, probably closer to $15,000 or more.

Life goes on.

I bought my 2023 in November. It would definitely be cheaper for me to buy the same car right now... but not by some ridiculous margin. Maybe $1k? 2k? after factoring in the lack of a tax credit now and the $3k cash rebate that Ford added at the time. Regardless, I just don't care. I was satisfied with what I paid at the time.

Now... if I had bought one in 2024 up to this point, I would probably be calling. That loss of a tax credit would be the biggest reason. But a year ago? No. That's ridiculous. It's been a year and there have been a number of price adjustments (why not call them back in November when they added that $3k rebate that I got?). That's just the market reacting to changes.

Retroactive price matching isn't even that unusual. But it's also typically time limited. Sometimes whatever the return window might be, sometimes more or less. But a year? No way.

I saw sales for the Mach-e were down 51% in January likely due to the overall feeling of pure electric cars (they seem to be falling out of favor) and the price cuts from Tesla so not sure Ford had much of a choice but to drop pricing.

All EV used values have mirrored the price drops Tesla put in place... ~20% Yeah, used Teslas dropped 20% as well, same with Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes... you name it.

The "good" news is that we are less likely to see further large price decreases as Tesla is approaching their cost of production and is unlikely do further large price drops...

What exactly do you expect Ford to do? Raise prices? The whole reason that they dropped prices was because they were no longer competitive with Tesla and others, and therefore there are tons of Mach-Es sitting on the lots. I would rather they clear the lots, than give up on the mach-E program.

By the way, I just bought my GTPE at the end of November. So yes it is painful to see at $7500 drop. However, I negotiated an Awesome deal (~$70k list for $62k, plus all-seasons added as a 2nd tire set, with 0% financing), and therefore this price drop means my awesome deal is now just a decent deal. Since I have no intention of trading in the car in the next two years or even three years, there really isn’t much of an impact to me. I picked the car because I think it is one of the best looking EV is on the road, and it is fun to drive. It also has a pleasant interior - that is a great mix of tech and traditional, tactile feel.

PS - the only flub is the terrible B&O speakers/amp - but I upgraded that and I am a happy camper.

I bought the car since I needed an extra car as they were calling me back to work. I paid for what I thought was a fair price back then (MSRP). If the price increased due to demand, you wouldn't call Ford and go out to pay extra to them now would you?

I've stopped paying attention to this and just enjoy my car. 7-8K difference isn't gonna make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things for me. It is good for the overall health of the car and EVs in general to have better competition.

To be fair, you are seeing reactions based on how you wrote it. You did not just share info, you gave opinions that people are referring to:
- Watching the price drops is making me sick
- I certainly didn't expect the drastic depreciation on a Ford. Maserati, or the like, absolutely, but not Ford
- Maybe if enough of us call and complain something will happen
- I had never owned a Ford until then. Not sure after this if I'll buy another one

This tend to invite reactions of "not sure what you expected".

I have no expectations. As I said before, I simplify shared what I had learned when I called them. Apparently, from what the representative told me, several others have had the same questions so I'm not the only one. Its just a work vehicle for us so we'll run the wheels off of it and send it to the scrap yard when its done. But lesson learned, I'll keep my thoughts and experiences to myself form now on.
