If you have a Mach E and feel screwed by the price slash, call Ford, or don't. LOL

I do not trade cars every year or two or three. I have never bought a house at the top of a housing bubble. We own 100+ pieces of property and every one of them is worth considerably more than we paid for them dating back to 1967. Are we debating cars or real property? Apparently I've struck a nerve with several forum members. We keep most of our vehicles for 10 years +. That's not what this is about. The point is this is extraordinary depreciation. Is it Teslas fault, Fords fault, the market, a combination of all the above? I'm just saying it never hurts to ask. All they can say is no.
My house is worth considerably more than what we paid for it 24 years ago. But in 2008, its value dropped below what we owed on the house at the time. I didn't whine about it. I didn't demand that the sellers, or the bank, give me money back. I rode out the dip in the market and eventually things recovered and now it's worth a lot more.

My point is that values can go up and down, in any market. Usually car values just go down, but it is the rate of depreciation that varies. The pandemic, with limited supply impacting both the new and used car market, severely skewed prices and expectations. We're just now getting back to something that resembles normal market forces.

The reason that your post seems to have struck a nerve is because you are coming across like an entitled Karen asking to see the manager. If you already were planning on keeping the car for 10+ years, then why does it matter to you that Ford cut the price of the car? It's not like you were planning on trading the car in this year or next year or even the year after that. The only reason why the more-than-normal depreciation on the car might matter to me is if I got in an accident and my insurance company had to total it, and the check they wrote me would be for less than what I had remaining on my loan. That's a worse case scenario, which could apply to any car I buy and finance.

This is the one reason we might give up our '22 Mustang: if the purchase price of a new Mustang is lower than what we owe on the Options balloon in a year, then we'll give this lovely car back and get a new one.
You think a new MME will cost less than your balloon payment?

I don't blame anyone for being pissed at this, but it's not all on Ford, either.

Tesla's price cuts last year were a disaster. They killed a LOT of value in the EV sector for a lot of automakers. I don't think they were even good for Tesla, not in the long term. The cuts Ford put in place are just to keep enough volume flowing to keep the lights on. And they've got a bunch of dealers who had bought in to the idea of selling EVs, only to have the rug pulled out from under them.
Disaster for who? For other OEMs sure, but great for consumer looking to get into EVs. We wanted cheaper EVs, well, here they are.

Like support for Ukraine, Trump put the word out that "EVs suck" and there goes 50% of the market.

Ford’s mistake is making the cars, not discounting them.

It is not just the 50% depreciation that hurts a little since we are not planning to sell our MME and it has no cost to operate at the moment with free electricity plan. The hurts in pride are actually way more. Hey look at the MME and the guy who is driving it. That dude probably paid more than $60k for the car and it is now worth $30k or even less. A used camry might be able to fetch a higher price than my MME. No more a guy who is driving a cool MME in a class of its own. MME is now a cheapo expecially a used one.

Or you could just not care what people think of the car you drive. If it works for you, it doesn't matter what some asshole thinks. I don't drive my car to please others. I drive it to please me.

Yes, there's been a downturn in "consumer sentiment" toward EVs. Some of it was inevitable, some of it's been driven by Petrohead FUD, and some is... legit. But it's going to recover over time. People will ride in their buddy's EV, or an Uber EV, or they'll rent one (yes, Hertz IS still renting Teslas, at least in some places) and they'll realize they're not horrible at all. With every new charging station that goes up, the practicality for a potential EV purchase improves for someone.

I think we're going to go through a period of cheap used EVs and even MORE people will drink the Kool aid. It's just a rough patch.
You think petrolhead FUD affected the Mach E resale in 2023?

That FUD existed in 2021 and 2022 and many years before that, yet our resale was awesome then.

Now you’re spreading the FUD. ?

I am good with it, but a goodwill payment isn’t the worst thing…and it doesn’t hurt to ask. How do I go about that?

We would be more screwed if Ford cannot move their vehicles off the lots and we continue with these high days on lot numbers that have chilling effects on adoption. The resale is already crap. Ford reducing MSRP isn't hurting anything more than what's already been hurt by Tesla and the EV Market in general.

I think you should buy another GTPE to:

1) Create scarcity to drive the resultant prices up - tell a friend!
2) Dollar cost average between the two cars to bring the price you paid for the first one down!

I’m not surprised, it’s the reason I didn’t buy into the Lithium craze. Cheaper replacement battery ?‍♂. I did buy into copper miners but on the margin that’s different. All I can say is I’m glad the charging network has time to build out and my Mach E is better than my Rio or AIW card or AMD 1 GHz 486 chip for $1k in a previous century with some obscure socket ?. Did I do that stuff? Anyway, it seems things keep moving along and you just have to pick your spot to jump in. I wonder if I’m a first adopter geek again but is a Tier 3 emission diesel mature tech? ???
