Is the entire steering wheel heated or just around the 3 and 9 position? I have a Venza with a heated steering wheel and it only heats part of the steering wheel. I find it incredibly annoying. I have owned many vehicles and the Venza is the first one I dislike. There are so many things with it that annoy me. It is a long story of why I did I buy it then but I learned my lesson. I am looking forward to getting rid of it and buying a Mache.

Heating just part of the wheel seems to be common in Japanese cars for some reason. Drives me nuts in my wife’s RAV4 Prime. It was the same in my Outlander PHEV. The wheel in my MME gets nice and hot all the way around.

I think they left out some windings on my steering wheel. It is a very mild temperature at best. The heated seat on level 3 is very hot.

What drove me nuts was the LEAF. The wheel would get burning hot, then shot off for a while, and the cycle continued.

My $450 heated wheel option in my RX… heats a small section at 9 and 3. The walnut wood looks great, but never warms. Had I known.

There is a thermistor buried in the wheel that tells the car how warm it is. @markboris found that on some steering wheels the thermistor is situated too close to the heating element, leading to the heat felt by the driver to be less than on other wheels. ??

EDIT: If you are really handy, you can remove the cover from the steering wheel and move the thermistor away from the heating element in order to increase the wheel’s temperature. But then you will have to put the cover back on. ??

Thanks for the answers. I should have thought of looking at the thermography post first! It looks nice and toasty.

That’s how Toyota heats their steering wheels… mostly at 3 and 9.

My Mach-E and Bronco have nice heated seats but the heated air on the Mach-E is pretty lacking. Before anybody says ā€œbut it’s an EVā€ um no… Rivian, BMW i4, Ioniq 5 didn’t seem to have HVAC issues. The Rivian would either freeze me or bake me.

Mine gets so hot I have to turn it off after about 5 minutes. My Maverick is the same way.
I’ve heard both things - mine (ā€˜23 premium) gets to a nice temperature then cools off quickly. Do you have a ā€˜21?

Same here. My steering wheel heats to a moderate but comfortable temperature and then seems to cool down to barely above ambient temperature. And in contrast, I find the seat heaters to be TOO warm. Even on the lowest setting, I usually can't tolerate the seat heater for more than about 5 minutes. Whereas in our other car, the lowest seat heater setting just keeps things nice and mildly warm.

Your steering wheel heater gets that hot? So interesting to see the variation. I thought about asking my dealer to swap out my steering wheel, but I would probably find an overly hot steering wheel to be as bothersome if not more bothersome than my current steering wheel.

I have a 22 GT, and mine is like yours.
